I once spent a few twilight hours on a bench in this magnificent round piazza. It wasn't very crowded at the time and as I sat there I marveled a bit at the irony of Rome's oldest monuments--it's Egyptian obelisks. Many were taken as trophies by Augustus after his defeat of Antony and Cleopatra at Actium.

I wish we had more days in Rome, so we could just sit in the sun in the very large Villa Borghese gardens. This is the main park in Rome where you have also the opportunity to rent a bicycle and ride the long walks to arrive at the villa itself, turned into a museum.

Ponte Sant'Angelo is the bridge across the Tiber River leading from the centre of Rome to the Castel Sant'Angelo, once Hadrian's tomb, then home to the popes, and now a museum. The most striking feature of the now pedestrian-only bridge, are the ten statues of angels which line it.

A lovely place to rest with views of the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill is one of Rome's famous hills. The walk is lovely and the place is historic. It's worth a visit if you're already visiting the Foro Romano, but the view isn't anything compared to Gianicolo in Trastevere.

Via dei Condotti is absolutely gorgeous and elegant, and based on Gogobot's starring system, I absolutely "loved it." That said, I probably wouldn't pay an extra visit here since I can't afford any of the shops and I already saw the Spanish Steps. Still, it's close to Stazione Spagna, so taking the Metro here is easy enough.

The history behind the fountain is awesome. It is said that each statue represents one of the 4 continents (Europe, Africa, Asia, America) and each spring is the most representative river of each.

Of all the empty patches of grass and dirt in the world, I suppose this is one of my favorites. More rich in history than sights today, you have to use your imagination to imagine huge chariot races and simulations of sea battles here (apparently they used to flood it with water too). Today, it's a convenient place to jog ...

This museum was founded in 1471 after Pope Sictus IV donated some bronze statues. It is an art and archeological museum, containing pieces connected with Rome history. One of the pieces that mostly impressed me is the bronze statue of the wolf with Romolo and Remo.

The Tiber is emblematic of Rome and is best scene from the many bridges across it. Can be forbidding when the water is high and fast, but mostly seems languorous. You just expect to see dead bodies floating in it. ;)

The Basilica of Saint Mary above Minerva is a minor basilica and one of the most important churches of the Roman Catholic Dominican order in Rome. Behind a plain facade, its arched vaulting is painted with brilliant red ribbing, and blue with gilded stars, a 19th century restoration in the Gothic taste.
