Genio Hotel

Via G Zanardelli 28, 00186 Rome, Italy
4 reviews

I think that it's special the fact that you can eat breakfast outside on the 6th floor terrace in the morning, and then at night take your own wine and glasses from the room and sit outside and watch the sunset and lights of Rome come on. There is even a higher level with one table for 4 on the ...

The Piazza Navona is where popular markets take place - and as a foodie, I love street markets for the street food.

    Fountain of the Four Rivers

    0.13 mi from Genio Hotel
    25 reviews

The Fountain of the Four Rivers depicts Gods of the four great rivers in the four continents as then recognized by the Renaissance geographers: the Nile in Africa, the Ganges in Asia, the Danube in Europe and the Río de la Plata in America. It was designed in 1651 by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for Pope Innocent X whose family palace, ...

At the southern end of the Piazza Navona is the beautiful Fontana del Moro (Fountain of the Moor) with a basin and four Tritons sculpted by Giacomo della Porta (1575) to which, in 1673, Bernini added a statue of a Moor wrestling with a dolphin.

    Tiber River

    0.15 mi from Genio Hotel
    20 reviews

The Tiber doesn't really hold a candle to the Thames or the Seine. When I was here the water was sluggish and malodorous in the extreme. The embankments along the water line are a nice place to hang out with a book, however. The bridges are also magnificent. Many of the great battles in Roman history were fought in front ...

This is an absolute must visit because of the three Matthew painting by the Baroque painter Caravaggio, one of the great artistic geniuses of his age. An in situ viewing is a must to get the full emotional impact of the paintings depicting significant moments in St. Matthews life.

    Chiostro del Bramante

    0.07 mi from Genio Hotel
    7 reviews

I love the particular mix of history and contemporary Roman life which the Chiostro del Bramante demonstrates. The building is a design of Bramante, as such, an important historical edifice, and is brought alive with contemporary exhibitions and performances. It's this way of making Rome's heritage contemporary and vibrant that represents the city at its best.

Francesco Borromini's masterpiece. Even though it's a stone's throw from Piazza Navona, this little church is a hard to find. It is closed in July and August, I got very lucky, I went there June 28th!

This is one of the amazing buildings by Borromini. It faces Piazza Navona and can be enjoyed from a number of different angles while in the Piazza. Unfortunately, despite numerous visits to the exterior, I never saw the church open. However, looking from the outside is the most edifying.

    Museo di Roma

    0.25 mi from Genio Hotel

I think i appreciate the Museo di Roma more than I actually like it. It's not exactly filled with interesting stuff, so the 9€ entrance fee seems a bit much. The museum features Roman history mostly revolving around the papal era, with only one room dedicated to ancient history. There is an interesting section on the construction of Piazza Navona, ...

Ah, the Abbey Theatre: packed with expats and the occasional Anglophile Roman, still, it's a good place to get a good beer near Piazza Navona. They serve food as well, which I remember as being decent, although definitely Italicized (bresaola and rucola...in a pub).

The drinks here aren't great. Neither is the food. So why go to Bar del Fico, located on a small, cobblestoned piazza around the corner from Piazza Navona? Because this is where almost every 20- or 30-something Roman, it seems, winds up on weekend nights—especially when the weather's warm. In the evenings, the crowd usually spills out of the bar ...

It's the perfect spot for either a date ...
