This place clearly has to have the best gelato in Rome. Very near the Panteon. Here is from their website, "via the vicar

This Has Been our historic home since the year 1900 - a stone's throw from the Pantheon and next to the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament.

We have a spacious interior, decorated in Art Nouveau style full, and tables outside for customers who want to watch the world go by. Both are available for our customers 365 days a year from 7am to 1:30 at night. Credit cards are welcome.

Best gelato in Rome! I don't even like pistachio normally as a flavor because in the States, it's very artificial, however at Giolitti, the pistachio flavor is nutty and fantastic. Get it and you won't be disappointed. All the flavors are great here. I also got the tiramisu which was delicious. If you must have gelato, try it here. Apparently it's the most famous gelato place in Rome. The Obama girls visited and learned how to make gelato here.

Sit-down service costs extra and they offer free wifi to paying customers. Take-away cones are about 2-3 euro and sit down gelato is 7 euro. This place is also near the Pantheon.

Gelato, pastries, and more gelato! It's near the Parlamento, so the surrounding streets may be blocked off at times; you should fearlessly walk around the blockades because it's worth it. Try the Opera, Zabaione, Cioccolata Bianca, and Gnuttela.

You'd have to be pretty mean-spirited to hate this place, which is the most famous gelato shop in Rome. Is it the best ice cream in the world? No, but it's a local institution and fun for all ages.

I'm not the type to go crazy over gelato. I mean, I love it. It's just not something I obsess over like pizza or perfectly symmetrical building plans. That said, Giolitti is a fun place to get great gelato artigianale with the rest of the known universe. Yes, everyone is coming here, and for good reason. The gelato is superb; it's flavorful but not too creamy (I don't like how creaminess covers up flavors and weighs me down).

The experience is even better. First pay for what you want, then stand in line to select your flavors. It moves fairly quickly, and the service behind the counter is fun and friendly. I highly recommend a stop at Giolitti.

(And if you're wondering, I went straight to Il Gelato di San Crispino right after, and I think I prefer Giolitti for both service, experience and flavor.)

How can one of Rome's best gelaterie be recommended for budget travelers? Because one of Rome's most decadent pleasures is also one of its most affordable, with prices for cones ranging from €2 up.

The best ice cream in Rome. There are many flavours, at least 40. It is right behind Piazza Colonna. I used to go there almost every evening when I lived there. There is often a long queue but I suggest waiting.

So many other places that are better in Rome - Carapina, del Teatro, Il Gelato, Fior fi Luna, Miami, Fatamorgana, the list goes on. This is a tired establishment that is fun for tourists but does not serve up quality worthy of praise

Some of the best gelato I've ever had, and the line of locals busting out the door shows me I might not be the only one. Highly recommended-- great, natural flavor (you can't go wrong with any!). It's a classic place, beloved by tourists and Italians alike. Plus, the men serving you gelato'll make you want to come back twice.

It's not easy to find but once you do, be prepared to experience the best gelato experience in Rome.

You have to pay first at the cashier near the door, then battle the crowds (there will be a crowd) and work yourself up to one of the guys behind the counter. Call out your flavors, and if you're lucky they will have whipped cream. Don't pass this up.

Despite being a tourist trap, this is truly some of the best gelato in Rome. Trust me... I tired almost all of them. I usually prefer the gelato that is served covered up, but the flavors here are incredible. Make sure you step up to the front and yell your order or you could be there all day.

This place was recommended to us by our tour manager, so we were a bit skeptical. Were we ever wrong.

We could have saved a few Euro getting a scoop on a cone at the counter, but it had already been a long day of walking so we took a seat and ordered off the menu. I got some gelato, where as the other girls got a cappuccino, tiramisu and some other dessert I can't remember. The pistachio gelato was SO GOOD. Nothing you've ever tasted. Even my friend that doesn't like pistachio ice cream was amazed at how much she loved it. It actually tasted like pistachios, very nutty.

Pro tip - if you sit in the sitting area, the prices are higher, but the portions are also bigger and there is free wifi available to you while you are "dining". Also, there is a bathroom in the back. There is usually a line since there are only two for both men and women.

Rome has many excellent gelaterias. The Giolitti gelateria is among those frequently recommended as amongst the best. When Michelle Obama was in Rome she came her with her daughters. The most difficult decision is making a choice amongst the many flavours.

Giolitti is a must visit when in Rome. They have the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted and their fresh squeezed juices are phenomenal.

Giolitti is one of the most famous gelato places in Rome. The decor inside is old world with wooden floors and cabinets and men dressed in black-and-white server attire. The gelatos taste very good and is definitely worth the trip.

I know, I know, I was a horrible friend. He had brought me here with big fanfare, "The Best Gelato in Rome!" he exclaimed. He knew the shortcut through the line and the best flavors. My response: "Pozzetto's in Paris is better." Worst. Friend. Ever.
After I restored his ego and tried to praise the mediocre gelato, I now know to save honest opinions for sites such as this and not say it to super enthusiastic friends. Is it fine? Yes. Is it worth the wait? Cut the line. It's what the Italians do. But there are other gelaterias in the city that are well worth your time.

Really good gelato, just too much line when I been there (it was summer), still, worth to wait. Not far from Fontana de Trevi.

the best place to get original gelato. with around 100 different kinds of ice cream, you'll find anything from smurf to a strange dark ice called 'la morde', don't try that one ;)
