Making the drive to North Shore, the first thing we did was check the surf sites, then we proceeded to look for Giovanni's to get some delicious shrimp. The food was pretty good, but I'm not sure I could say it was outstanding. The shrimp is slathered in garlic and butter and was not really that spicy. If you are a fan of this sort of shrimp, definitely check it out.

Locals and visitors love Giovanni's. On my recent visit I got my garlic shrimp fix, but tried some lihi power sprinkled over it. Thanks to a local who shared some with me, I tried a yummy twist on its flavors. There's nothing like sitting outside next to the truck sucking on these morsels.

One of my favorites spots on the Island! I always try to make a stop for their yummy Shrimp! There are three types of Shrimp here: Shrimp Scampi, Spicy Shrimp, and Lemon Butter and you can either order a whole order 12 or a half order 6 huge shrimp. Each plate also comes with a side of rice. My favorite is the shrimp scampi which is drenched with butter and garlic so good!

Here at Wayde's World Hawaii it's all about the little dives and budget grindz you can get around Oahu...We know GIOVANNI'S is no secret, it's the MOST FAMOUS food Truck of them all. This was the first Shrimp truck I went to all those many years ago in the 90's and you know what...I would make it my last if my life ever took me off these islands.
If you're going to talk or review the MOST FAMOUS Shrimp Truck on the North Shore of Oahu you should make it a point to know a little something actually about it, their history and their shrimp!
Like most of the Shrimp Trucks in Kahuku most of the shrimp on Oahu's north shore come from Shrimp Farms which is a well-known shrimp aquaculture area. You can't miss all the Shrimp Farm Pools while driving through the small town. These shrimp you are eating are not coming from some thriving underwater ecosystem from the pacific ocean...sorry. Even so all the Shrimp trucks in Kahuku are good, but Gio's has always been just a little bit ahead of the others.
GIO's is best known for their GARLIC SHRIMP SCAMPI...Second in line are the LEMON BUTTER SHRIMP and the INSANE HOT & SPICY...if you get this you better love and be able to handle HOT...there are no refunds! Their Shrimp dishes have gone up over the years...I remember when their prices had been far cheaper, but the world changes, inflation and all and now you have a $13.00 Shrimp Plate. Do I believe their price reflects partially because of it's name...YES...about $3.00 more then it should be charging, but even so the Shrimp are still the best on the North Shore if you are a Choke Garlic Lovah! You can buy a soft drink here or you can hit up the SMOOTHIE TRUCK next door which I always do...Banana/Coconut is my my Fav, but there are so many combo's you will find something you like! If you get the change don't miss out on the BBQ CORN which is another little venue in the back...so while you are with your group send someone to get the shrimp plates, someone to get smoothies and someone to get some yummy BBQ CORN! (I will be reviewing these two locations so watch for them on my guide to Oahu)
Gio's started business from a small bread truck back in the early 90's, but they didn't have it parked all day...they drove it around the North Shore stopping at all different locations a few hours at a time...This was the first shrimp truck on the North Shore and a MOBILE ONE AT THAT! After word spread around the island they choose to park the shrimp truck and have the customers come to them in the late 90's. Once business picked up they bought a second truck which is parked across from McDonald's in Haleiwa Town, along with other shrimp trucks, but many either don't know this or don't care because they wish to go to the original one in Kahuku...
About 12 years ago Gio's became SO POPULAR they just couldn't manage the Orders and so retired the original Shrimp truck. For the past 12 years or so the New TRUCK in Kahuku has been serving LARGE AMOUNT OF CUSTOMERS...so many that Gio's built a Pavilion for them to protect everyone from the sun and inclement weather if it came by.
I have been coming here for almost 20 years now and it's just a place you feel at home...I love coming here, bringing friends and visitors...it's just the place to bring them when you think of the North Shore for grindz...There is always a sense of joy here...a place of memories that I love returning to. Every time I bite into one of those juicy, garlic butter shrimp I can't help but think of yesteryear...Just nothing beats it.
NOTE: DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE YOUR NAME ON THE TRUCK with a marker! You can't miss "WAYDE'S WORLD HAWAII" on there!
open till 5 so get here by 4:30...they are one HAWAIIAN TIME HERE!Recommended for:History Buffs

Shrimp trucks in Hawaii are becoming a big popular thing. There are tons up on the north shore and North East side of Oahu. They are all about the same, but some have different choices. I personally like the spicy ones, usually called Volcano sauce. But again, you can't go wrong for how many shrimp you get in one order. Great value. Not the nicest places, or biggest areas to sit, but they have their personal touches. Giovanni's was one of the first. So I would definitely start here.

After visiting all of the beaches along the north shore you need to get in the car and stop at one of those roadside food vendors for a coconut! They will cut it for you and put a straw in it. After drinking that you need to get in the car and stop at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck and you will be in heaven! Best, most buttery shrimp ever!
