Our Team decided to take a Sunday off from our work in Calgary and head out to Banff and Lake Louise for a small taste of the Canadian Rockies. I have been to this area several times and at the end always long to come back. Unfortunately for this time around, our time was very limited and our hike was limited to only part of the Plain of Six Glaciers hike. That's a far cry from the last time when I did the complete Lake Agnes and Six Glaciers hike, including a visit to both Tea Houses.
But before the Hike, we decided to have Lunch. Of course there's the main floor restaurant at the Chateau Lake Louise that has the signature postcard view of the Lake. However, that area (and the most of the rest of the Hotel for that matter) was packed with guests and tourists, and almost to the point of being loved too much. We didn't have that kind of time to wait and decided to go downstairs to the Glacier Saloon.
The Western-styled Glacier Saloon has a small patio, which I have no idea why it was closed on such a nice day. Instead, we ended up at a table near the window so that we could either look at the Lake from afar or watch NFL Football. The food was decent, my micro brew was tasty and cold, and the service was friendly and efficient. And like everything else here at the Chateau, it was Über expensive (even factoring in Loonie - US Dollar parity) and a bit too busy for its own good. If there's a next time, it will be with Gayle, with at least a few meals upstairs, during the off season, and maybe staying on the Gold Floor or at the Deer Lodge just down the road.
