The stretch of route 70 is considered one of the gems of the interstate highway system. Literally dangling above the upper reaches of the Colorado River while passing through the narrow defile of Glenwood Canyon, the roadway is a natural and architectural triumph all at once. One of the main attractions along this stretch of road is Hanging Lake, a glacial lake that sits thousands of feet above the river in a bowl carved out of a mountain side. The other main attraction is the hot springs located in the town of Glenwood Springs about fifteen miles farther west.

I love this town. You can actually take the train from Denver to Glenwood. Stay at the lodge and soak in the hot springs. Olay mini-golf or take a gondola ride and check out the views. Don't forget to visit Hanging Lakes for an awesome short hike.
