Help 靖 今野 with their trip plan: Going to Litochoro
I want to climb Mt. Olympus. I'm scheduled to check out at a hotel in Athens on May 24. I'm scheduled to take a plane back to Japan from Athens at 10:05 on May 28. I want to get to the highest peak of Mt. Olympus. Is it possible? I want to know about transportation, hotel and other necessary matters for the climb including expenses.
From the trip, Going to Litochoro
Hi there! As I'm sure you know, from Athens you've got to take a bus to Litochoro, the closest village to Mt Olympus. The bus ride should be about 6 hours: http://www.rome2rio.com/s/Athens/Litochoro. So you'll want half a day for travel at either end...as soon as you get to Athens, I'd go to the bus station and see about tickets and times. Climbing to the peak (Mytikos) is usually done in 2 days (2000m up and then overnight at the top and back down the next day.) but can be done in one day with an early start IF you are a really experienced climber. Hope that's a good start to your research! If at all possible, you might leave Athens a day earlier just to have more time to travel and even look for a guide if you want once you get to Litochoro. Good luck on your visit to the gods!
