I am in Quito for a 48 hours before heading out to Galapagos on July 8. Any recommendations
Check out El Pobre Diablo - it's one of Quito's coolest dining and nightlife establishments that has also been around for sometime now. The atmosphere leans towards cozy Bohemian, the dining is great and their live music can really rock!
Here's another place to try if you're just looking for a casual drink or some quick pub fare. There are a number of places in Quito that advertise themselves as 'pub's. This is one of the better ones. The only other I'd recommend is the Reina Victoria, which is in more of the traditional British pub style. Turtle's Head is pub-like, but yet has some flare and energy to it. This is also a great place to meet other international travelers or connect with the ex-pat community in Quito.
If you only have a limited amount of time in Quito (which it sounds you do), but want to get in some of the history and sights - I recommend this as top billing. It is extremely impressive, a bit heart-breaking (you'll see some pretty awful poverty in this part of town), and central to many other points of historical interest in the Quito's colonial sector.
Hi Manu, here's one last one. This one's a bit of a trek from downtown Quito and a bit touristy, so if you've already filled your itinerary or are suffering from the altitude, I'd say save this one for a longer visit to the region. However, in a country named for the equator, it almost feels like an obligation to see a monument to it!
