I have been on for different events. Once for a college reunion and it is a great place to picnic, play sports, and drink adult beverages. Twice for concerts- its so big that its perfect for multiple stages and food venues. And once for a walk. Overall a very impressive park with a lot to do and a lot of greenery.

Built by the same architect as central Park in New York City. The park has many wonderful things to see.
I personally recommend the Japanese Tea Garden. I have been to Japan and it is like being transported to a beautiful garden in Japan. And, it is not too expensive. One can go and have tea and just walk around for less than $10

Near by there is the De Young Museum and the Aquarium as well as the Botanical Garden.

So many things to list here.

Back when I lived closer to SF, whenever I needed to step out of my world Golden Gate Park always seemed like the best place to go. No matter what my mood or how much time I could afford, there was something there that was just perfect for the day; the botanical gardens or conservatory of flowers, or Japanese Tea Gardens. I love the Academy of Sciences and or the De Young. Even just wandering through the park makes a perfect little escape.

GG Park is a truly great urban park. It's hard to believe it's all created by humans, and built on top of ancient sand dunes.

This place is BIG. So big, I've been here about 4 times and I still haven't seen everything. Filled with gardens, museums, fields of green -- it's the perfect place for families as well as for any traveler who loves the outdoors.

Just a cool place to go. Several parks within parks. Have to pay for most areas, but it's great for a summer hangout.

What's *not* to love about Golden Gate Park?! There's far too much to do in the park than I can review here…so here are the highlights, focusing mainly on those in the eastern end of the park.

    1) The Dahlia Garden (and the Conservatory of Flowers gardens) - Hands down, the Dahlia Garden is one of the most beautiful spots in all of San Francisco. It's tucked just to the east side of the Conservatory of Flowers and (of course) is only seasonal, from roughly April through September. The rest of the gardens in front of the Conservatory are also unspeakably gorgeous. Stop here for a lazy afternoon among the flowers.

    2) Lindy in the Park - Sundays (weather permitting) from about 11 a.m. or noon until 2 p.m. Free swing dance lessons and dancing, on the bridge near/behind the DeYoung Museum. Even if you don't participate, it's a joyful, uplifting scene to watch!

    3) The Rose Garden - keep traveling past the bridge behind the DeYoung and you'll find the Rose Garden, a peaceful, serene area with all kinds and colors of roses.

    4) Food trucks behind the band/theater shell. You'll get hungry, trust me. Try the mango lass from the Indian truck to keep up your energy!

I could keep going (the DeYoung, the Japanese gardens, the botanical gardens, Strawberry Hill…)! Remember, you'll probably get lost in the park, but it's the most beautiful place you'll ever get lost!

Lovely place to meet friends, stretch your aesthetic sense at their many museums, dine finely in the basement of the California Academy of Sciences, play in a biodome surrounded by butterflies and birds, etc. There's always something going on, be it performance art, tour groups. Impromptu sports games, you name it. Also an excellent spot for runners. Make sure you wander over to Hippie Hill if you want the full San Francisco experience, bums and all.

The Golden Gate Park is a magical place. Located right in the center of the City, it's a huge, sprawling park dotted with trails, ponds, manicured gardens, museums and even a dutch windmill. Lots to do. On weekends they close the main road to traffic so bikers and roller bladers can take to the streets.

I went to Golden Gate Park on one of those tour buses that take you everywhere.
Then I rented a bike at Golden Gate Park Bike & Skate at Fulton St. for US$5 and hour and headed down toward the sea.
There are a lot of things to see at the Park. Apart from the De Young Museum, that hosts really good exhibitions, the Academy of Science and the Japanese Tea Garden, which are all in the very beginning of the park, there are waterfalls, lakes, sports courts all along the way that leads to the Pacific Ocean.
And to my surprise, right before you reach the end of the park, there is a real full sized dutch windmill with a garden and it's gorgeous! Totally worth my biking all the way there.
Take some time to look at the ocean and then prepare to bike your way back up because all you did until now was to stroll down.
Make sure you see the Conservatorium and its beautiful gardens before returning your bike.

Lots of people around with their dogs and kids for BBQs, to fly kites, and just relax and have fun. Take the last exit off the 101 before the bridge and take a drive down the small street to find parking farther away from the bridge. Enjoy the walk!

This park is a beautiful breath of fresh air in the middle of the city. It is filled with activity, and yet seems peaceful at the same time. Always worth a visit.

This gem of a park is part of why San Francisco is such an amazing city. A former nuclear missile base is now the region's most scenic wild area, with miles of trails for hikers, horses and bikes. Short, steep hills give breathtaking vistas of the City by the Bay, and old Army gun bunkers make great picnic spots! You might even see a bobcat or a coyote, and its only a 20 minute drive from downtown SF! Hard to beat in my book...

I couldn't wait to get back to the GGP! The de Young Museum, Botanical Gardens, Japanese Tea Garden, AIDS memorial. I just find it so peaceful, walking around, with so many different sights. Grab a sandwich at one of the many sandwich shops along the way and wander this manicured wonderland.

Description

One hundred and fifty years ago, this 1000-acre park was a windswept sand dune. To this day, its autumnal music festival, Outsidelands, is an homage to its former moniker. These days, you'll find the same serenity with a myriad of attractions -- art museums, a Japanese tea garden, a Shakespeare garden, even a buffalo paddock. Or, get active -- hike, ride horseback, learn archery or feed ducks at any one of three ponds.
