We stayed at two different hotels in Hanoi during our recent holiday - the Golden Sun Legend for three days at the beginning of our Vietnam trip and the Silk Path hotel for two nights at the end. We enjoyed both and here's my perspective on Golden Sun Legend: the location is great and despite being in the heart of the hustle and bustle of the old quarter, it's a quiet street and noise is not an issue in the hotel. The pros, in addition to the location, are the very welcoming and helpful service of the staff and the large rooms. This is only a 3-star hotel, so don't expect anything fancy or you'll be disappointed. What it lacks in style and luxury, it makes up for with large rooms and all the things you really need in a hotel room.

The breakfast on the top floor has both pros and cons - it's a small space and on one morning we arrived to find all tables momentarily occupied, but one became available immediately and we were able to sit. The first day we didn't think much of the food and the bread was a bit stale, but we quickly learned that all you have to do is ask and anything you need will be addressed. The omelets as well as the banana or chocolate pancakes were great and the bread after that first day was fresh (probably just a fluke).

The cost of the Golden Sun Legend was about half that of the Silk Path, so it's also a very attractive option from that point of view.

Note: they don't have connecting rooms - few hotels in Vietnam seem to - so if you are traveling with kids, keep that in mind. There are only two rooms on each floor though, so traveling between rooms isn't an issue.

After 5 days in this hotel we felt like family. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had a good time and were ready with suggestions of new things to explore each day on our morning walks.
Breakfast was cooked fresh to order each morning and the pho on offer changed each day and was always delicious.
Our room featured a comfortable bed, flat screen tv, laptop and good fast wifi. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Hanoi.
