- Grand Daddy Hotel
The Grand Daddy is probably one of the funkiest hotels in the center of Cape Town. Yes, it is trendy and modern, but without a stiffness you find at other similar hotels. Cool but quirky, that is basically what it comes down to. The building itself is gorgeous, with its graphite walls, white elements, and tall windows. When it comes to accommodation, there are plenty op options. Apart form sleeping in between four solid walls, there is a roof top trailer park (my favourite). All seven vintage, aluminium trailers have their own decor, varying from ultra-trendy Afro chic to baby blue everything with white polka dots everywhere (and everything in between). This together with the Sky Bar, the Sugar Daddy Suites, and the Pink Flamingo rooftop cinema the Grand Daddy is definitely worth writing home about.Recommended for:

The Grand Daddy lives up to its name – smart, elegant yet funky, set in the original 19th century building, and ideally located in bustling Long Street. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a stylish manner, with chic, modern bathrooms. There’s a smart restaurant on the first floor and in the evening guests can cruise down the passage to the stylish Daddy Cool Bar where salsa nights, live music events and a Sunday night chill out session are held. Climb into the oldest lift in the city and ride up to the roof top bar where you’ll find the airstream trailor rooms, for an alternative accommodation experience – they’re all uniquely decorated and quite small but definitely worth a try! Check the website for old-school movie events in the sky bar …. This is the perfect place for hipsters to hang their handbags.

14/20; Rooms 8/10, Facilities+Dining 3/5, Service 3/5. Located a bit awkwardly on a busy corner of CPT's vibrant Long St (parking can be a hassle). Rooms have neutral slighly edgy decor, and are mostly quite spacious. The rooftop trailer park is great fun for drinks, but the trailers themselves are a lot more fun to look at than to stay in. A different experience for sure, but unsurprisingly cramped and not in the best shape in our experience. Front desk is curteous and reasonably efficient and breakfast, served in the mini-bistro/cafe is allright.
