As far as big business hotels go, the Mediterraneo is pretty darn good. The enormous lobby is sunny with comfy black leather couches, a couple of internet point computers, and free wifi. The bar feels like it's in it's own indoor piazza and has a glassed-in smoking section that is on the street.
There was a bit of bureaucratic disorganization upon my arrival, but once we got through that the service was delightful and warm. This is a solid professional formal hotel.
The door to my room was carpeted, which I like to imagine insulated my room from the hallway. I found the charging station on the desk to be infinitely useful (they had a panel with every imaginable electronic fixture so I could plug in my computer, phone, and camera without getting out and risking leaving behind my own chargers).
There were a lot of groups of Americans there, which didn't bother me but I can imagine that if you're looking for a feeling of being unique in Florence, this is not really your place.
The parking garage underneath the hotel was also a perk for me.Recommended for:

The Hotel Meditarreano is a great option for a business trip or conference. The ambience is somewhat sterile and generic, but it has all the typical amenities one would need to host a group from 10-200, including several different conference rooms of different sizes for presentations and meetings. My room (a Standard) was simple, but nicely housed all of my living and basic work needs. I appreciated the couch/bed for a bit of relaxation. The WiFi worked smoothly, too. There was a nice view of the river and the south side of town. Its an easy walk into town on the paths that are just across the busy road where the hotel is located. There is a pleasant and spacious, while somewhat boring feeling, restaurant, as well as a bar in the lobby with a cafe porch. Neither the bar or cafe are places where I'd want to spend more than 5 minutes, as the bar is in the busy lobby, and the cafe space is right on the main road, where cars are whizzing by all day and night. I'd come back if I was here for work and wasn't interested in being distracted by the allures of Florence.Recommended for:

Cold, sleek, boring, safe! These are some of the words I would use to describe the feeling of this hotel. It's very "nice" in the blandest sense of the word, and seems that they pride themselves on that. This is a fine, upscale place to spend a night or two, especially if you're there on business travel. It's still drivable (safely out of the zona traffico limitato), which is nice, and luckily they provide complimentary guest parking (since parking on the street would be inconvenient at best!). It is nice that it's on the river and a quick walk to the central part of town, but otherwise there's nothing exceptional about this hotel that would distinguish it from being any other classy hotel anywhere else in the western world. If you don't want to see Florence as much as have a nice place to crash, this is a fine place with in-house restaurant and room service so it could be a nice escape from the outside world. Free wifi is also always a bonus.
