The Grand Hyatt is a very centrally located hotel near Union Square in San Francisco. I've always liked to take out of town visitors to the top floor Grandview lounge for drinks because it is rarely crowded, has great views, easy to find and get to, and has nice strong drinks.
I also like to tell out of towners about this hotel because of the amazing bronze fountain right on its premise on Stockton street. What is so cool about this fountain is that we can find all relevant SF landmarks and sights (at the time of construction...in the 70s) all built into it in bronze. (somethings are timeless though) We can do scavenger hunt of things SF...all right here, in one place!Recommended for:

Newly remodeled this hotel is stunning and shockingly it's very competitively priced. We got rates right around $200 for a week night which is really reasonable for San Francisco and an amazing deal for a place as quality as this.
It's location is right off of Union Square park. Couldn't get any better for shopping and restaurants.
Ask for a room that overlooks the square. They are very accommodating about room requests.
Go to their bar for happy hour. It's a classy joint on the second floor of the hotel. It's a little bit hidden you have to take the stairs up from the lobby the elevators don't access it.

Rating based solely on event facilities. Latest refresh brightens up the spaces. Responsive staff, well-stocked and good quality furnishings. The location is so convenient for event attendees. Just a little challenging loading/packing.

I booked a staycation here just prior to moving to the city...the best thing about the hotel is location- it's right in Union Square. The rooms have been renovated so they are nice and new, but somewhat sterile and characterless. While decent, I still don't think this hotel is on par with the Grand Hyatt hotels in other cities.

i came here for a conference 2 years ago, and was pleasantly surprised by this place. first, i'd recommend parking at the Sutter/Stockton garage if you're just visiting or staying short term, rather than valet. the meeting rooms downstairs are huge. they do run the AC so it was noticeably cold throughout. though i didn't stay here, we were visiting friends also at the meeting and tagged along to see the rooms. the rooms were quiet, with traffic noice not audible, good for union sq. rooms were clean and reasonably spacious for SF. i'd look to stay here if there's a good rate and want to be near union square
