I fell in love with this resort - and could easily have spent much more time here. First off, Carlsbad is the best place to stay if you're going to be in North County - you can hop right onto the 5 and get downtown in 20-30 minutes. It's a luxurious beach town, high-end and "oh so fabulous," but without being snotty -- and I felt that was how the Pacific Palisades was as well. The lobby is gorgeous, with modern black accents on the furniture and staircases, and you almost feel as though you are in someone's beachside mansion. The deck outside the main hotel is even better: an enormous swimming pool, bedecked with lounge chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas, a barbecue, fire pit, and stunning view of the next-door Carlsbad Flower Fields, and beyond them, the Pacific Ocean. The southern California sunshine is intoxicating out there, and you could spend the entire day in poolside bliss. (In the suites wing of the hotel, the pool is enclosed by a jungle style theme, with tented cabana canopies available for rent and a kids' play/splash area.) The breakfast is so big you don't know what to do with it, the gym is the biggest hotel gym I've ever seen (with wide open windows that let in fresh air, instead of a stuffy underground one), and the showerheads are pulsating rain shower delights. But my favorite part of this already awesome hotel? The Redbox knock-off DVD rental kiosk. Why hasn't EVERY hotel thought of that?

I tend to get a little creeped out when I can tell that a hotel has been built with the knowledge that it will make an UNREASONABLE amount of money, and has roped in other businesses on the deal. I get that feeling a little bit from Palisades, mostly because the resort is absolutely gigantic and has tie-ins with Karl Strauss and Legoland next door. I can’t argue with the fact that this hotel is certainly beautiful, has a multitude of amenities, and takes advantage of the beautiful coastal skyline. I also just about ragequit when I saw that there was a small WATER PARK on the grounds for kids in addition to another, more adult-friendly pool. Where was this idea 10 years ago when I was half my size??

You will immediately feel as if you are vacationing in Hawaii at this hotel, without the leis and hula skirts. This hotel is great! Not only do they cater to kids who are lego fanatics (they have a lego-built owl at the check-in counter, and a gift shop packed with lego memorabilia!), but they also have a beautiful pool with an ocean view. They also offer rooms with ocean views, so you can sit outside on the balcony and enjoy a wonderful San Diego sunset. They have a breakfast buffet for $13, which includes a build your own omelette station! And make sure you check out the happy hour at the bar from 3-6...only 4 bucks for beer and well drinks. Another amazing perk, if you are bringing little Lego builders along, is that they have a walkway that takes you directly to Legoland! So easy!

Pretty mediocre experience. They lost our reservation, it took them a couple of hours to get us into a room, it took over an hour to get room service on the phone, room service delivery is very sloooooow, etc. On the positive side, my children like the hotel (particularly, the kids pool).
