Pro-tip: Free parking on the street in late evenings.
It was nice to sit back and listen to Double G's daKAH Hip Hop Orchestra.
I did not google and listen to their sound prior to coming to the event.
I like hip hop; And, I sometimes will listen to classical music.
But, the combination of the two. You can see the artists getting their groove on.
Listening to the band while the mc was spitting out rhyme with the fountain and lights under the semi warm Ca night.
Food: Tasty samples from Local Tables
Drink: Tried the Griffith by Greenbar
For future visits, I will bring a picnic basket with a nice bottle of vino.Recommended for:

Nice place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea. Or enjoy lunch during the day. At night it becomes a stage.
Grand Performances presents free performing arts that reflect the best of global culture and inspire community among the diverse peoples of Los Angeles.

I have a wonderful picnic while listening/watching some eclectic shows and musical performances during the summertime at the Grand Performances located in the California Plaza in DTLA. The Grand Performances staff has done a great job in creating a diverse line up every week. Where can you watch the movie Dirty Dancing one week then listen to the Jazz Mafia another week? Just a few tips… find street parking which is free after 8pm I think if you can’t, then there is a parking garage. If you don’t have time to pack a picnic there are a couple of stores open to pick up a few snacks.

I have yet to see a performance at Grand Performances that I vibed with really well. Hey, I'm not saying this free concert series sucks (b/c it's great! And I love that they provide this to the public for free); I'm just saying that perhaps I just haven't had the best luck with picking the right performances to see.
I still really enjoy my time there though. How can you not when there's live music combined with food?

Grand Performances is a great outdoor space in DTLA that hosts free music and entertainment. It's a wonderful outdoor space. The fountain, once it's turned off becomes the main stage.
I've seen a few performances here and this is just a venue that you can't miss. The historic Angel's Flight Railway is not too far from here and you can take the short ride down the hill for $.50.
This is just a nice out in the town and if you get there early enough, you can have a nice romantic picnic with your loved one while you're watching the performance. Just check their calendar to see you what you're interested in. I can't wait to come back for the Hawaiian music.

Awesome venue in the middle of Downtown LA! They've got great, free performances that everyone should take advantage of during summer. It's a nice place to walk around and socialize and you have a view of Los Angeles from the top! The sound of the performance is great and the water around the stage is really pretty. They have a parking lot so it's not difficult to find a spot, but it can be a bit pricey. But hey, the concert is free!
