Stepping into Grant Plaza Hotel is a nice escape from Chinatown's Grant Street which boasts shop after shop of trinkets and souvenirs. The chandeliers, couches, fake fireplace, and orchids in the lobby feel like walking into someone's living room.
If you want a no-frills hotel that is in the middle of it all - near the heart of Chinatown, and steps from Union Square, it's a budget-friendly option. Instead of spending money on a fancy hotel in the same location, you can spend it on all the shopping around the area.
The rooms are small, but clean and well-kept. There is free Wi-Fi, and they offer parking nearby at around $28 per day with in/out privileges, which is not bad for being in the Chinatown and Downtown border.
Since the location is so desirable, and not so hard on the wallet, they suggest booking in advance. The staff seemed courteous.

The Grant Plaza doesn’t have many amenities, but it’s in a great location amid the bustle of Chinatown and close to Union Square and the cable cars. They have a welcoming lobby space with comfy couches that are a quiet spot to watch the action, and there are also little common sitting areas in the upper areas of the hotel. Rooms are simple, clean and light, furnished with a small desk and TV. Bathrooms are modern and have hair dryers.
They don’t have very many queen bed rooms, so if you want one of those, you’ll need to book pretty far in advance.
There is no parking on-site, but for $28 per day they have a deal with a garage in Union Square with in and out privileges. There is free wifi, and there are computers downstairs available for accessing the Internet and sending faxes (both for a fee). Storage lockers are available.

If you’re looking to stay in the heart of Chinatown while still staying a few blocks from Union Square, the Grant Plaza is a fair choice. Probably one of the nicer hotels in Chinatown, the hotel provides everything you need for a pleasant stay: free Wi-Fi, a business center, modern rooms and nice bathrooms. This hotel is particularly good for visitors from China or Hong Kong, as the staff are Chinese.
There are a number of restaurants, eateries and stores nearby. If you want to step out of Chinatown, head down Grant for just two blocks and you’ll be in the heart of the downtown shopping area. Head down Grant the other way and you’ll hit North Beach, the pretty Italian district.
Service was overall friendly and professional. This may not be my favorite area to stay, but if it’s what you’re looking for, definitely consider Grant Plaza Hotel.Recommended for:Business Travelers
