Although a bit pricey, this place is worth it. Secluded and scenic, it is perfect for a romantic getaway. It is a bit old-fashioned and wealthy feeling, but it has been upgraded and the rooms are luxurious!

My favorite place to go in the summer when in San Diego for college. They also have fire pits so you can have a great time from morning until the wee hours of the night. Swim all day and then hang out by the fire in the evening to share stories with friends.

Out on its own, towering in a lush compound right in front of the boat docks in Mission Bay is the Hyatt Regency. This hotel has been here for a long time, but has been remodeled, with the interior in simple but elegant neutral beige tones. The grounds are a little bit like a Hawaiian property with its green plants, ...

Man, what a location! You’re literally crawling distance from the beach. You can sit poolside, order drinks from the Caribbean Room (their bar), and watch all the beautiful tanned and toned Pacific Beach bodies cruise by right in front of you. While I’m not sure exactly what the motif is with regards to design (other than fake plants), it doesn’t ...

This is a nice place to stay if you are looking to be in the Mission Beach area- a good location basically in the middle of La Jolla and Downtown. The hotel is pretty new and very high class, with a great pool and lounging area. Be aware that this is not on a beach, but on the bay, which ...

If you want pampering and relaxation with unbelievable surroundings, this is the place to go. On the quiet end of the island, it's secluded just enough to let you slip away into contentment, but is merely a 10 minute walk back into the promenade action if you want to get going. A wonderful property. Overlooking Batiquitos lagoon, it is surrounded by nature, with walking and running trails. The staff provides the real four seasons experience, meeting and exceeding every expectation. The rooms (especially the suites) are sized perfectly, with lots of room to relax. Gyms, pools and areas to lounge make this a destination by itself.

I really like the Kimpton line of hotels -- they're not super expensive (they have a range of prices, depending on location of the hotel of course) and they're all pretty nice. Sign up for Kimpton InTouch (rewards program); they send you 20% off for any booking on a hotel during your birthday month! That's what I did for this ...

This spot was clean and pretty with nice views of the city. The rooms were a tiny bit small, but sparkled with an elegant sense of class. By far the best parts were the excellent beds with big plush bedding and the fun hall lights depicting scenes from this historic hotel's past.

We are fans of the Hilton Franchise. Doubletree, I think, gives the best value of the chain, all the Hilton standards at an actual reasonable price (at times, less than $100 a night). We also have the advantage of being Gold members of the Hilton awards through my job (HP), hard to complain about anything here, both as a chain ...

As a San Diego native, I've been to concerts at Humphrey's music venue, but I had never been to the hotel side before. Entirely secluded from the outside world on Shelter Island, the resort feels like a slice of Hawaiian paradise. Palm trees wave in the fresh breeze off the marina, quiet walkways snake their way around little waterfalls and ...

Modern meets just plain cool. I was fully impressed with this hotel: from the in-room Wolfgang Puck coffee to the flatscreen expanded-cable TV, the Crabtree & Evelyn amenities (call me crazy, but I don't fancy the cheap, sterile brand shampoos that strip my hair) down to the incredible island-themed pool. There are plenty of chairs, sofas, and loveseats on which ...

I fell in love with this resort - and could easily have spent much more time here. First off, Carlsbad is the best place to stay if you're going to be in North County - you can hop right onto the 5 and get downtown in 20-30 minutes. It's a luxurious beach town, high-end and "oh so fabulous," but without ...
