I had a good time visiting Grgich, but thought it to be a little more sterile than some of the other Napa and Sonoma wineries. The price for tasting is certainly on the higher end, and all tastings are held at a bar in the small main tasting room. Maybe it was just my experience, but I didn't have the friendliest sommelier on hand....still, the wine was good, particularly their port offering, and I have since bought a bottle in stores based on my trip here.

I loved my tour and tasting experience at Grgich. Grgich is the only winery in Napa where you can stomp on grapes. I also received a lot of fun swag which was included in my package there (a wine glass, cheese plate and t-shirt). The wine was some of the best I have ever had; the Fume Blanc was my favorite with notes of pepper. The perfect spicy wine.

We had seen the movie Bottle Shock, and it was Mike Grgich's wine that was the real-life winner of the Judgment of Paris. Having seen the movie added to the experience for me even though it was heavily fictionalized. Great tour by Melissa Stadler. Really enjoyed ourselves and left with many bottles in tow.

My favorite in Napa? (I'm more of a Sonoma guy.) Do NOT miss the fantastic chardonnay, or the beautiful reds. The wine maker's craft, lifted to the highest art form. Worth every penny.
