Launched with a gift of land from Colonel Griffith to L.A. in 1896, Griffith Park now sprawls across 4,310 acres in the Los Feliz area, with 53 miles of trails through sage scrub, oak, and woodland forest. The park should look familiar as it has appeared in films such as Rebel Without a Cause and Back to the Future, and it’s the site of the hilltop Griffith Observatory, with a 300-seat planetarium. The Greek Theatre hosts outdoor concerts, and the park’s highest point, Mount Hollywood, delivers sweeping views of the valley.

Great place to hike! This is the place to go if you want to get in a good workout while having a conversation with friends. If you like exploring, there are a lot of hiking trails here that have yet to be discovered. And once you get to the top, the view is breathtaking!

We hiked a bit through Griffith Park right at sunset and it was spectacular. The light in California is so bright and golden and being there right when it was at it's most beautiful was amazing. The park was stunning to walk through and I would happily visit again.

LA's own Central Park - I absolutely LOVE it. This is a great place for anyone! I usually enter the park from the Burbank side off of the 134 at Victory or off of Los Feliz Blvd. near Western. There are thousands of acres for your outdoor pleasure. Tons of cyclists and runners. This may be one of the very best areas for long distance training, without the hassle of tons of street lights, stop lights and traffic.
Pony rides, carousel, choo choo train, golf course, LA Zoo, Autry Museum, Observatory, Farmers Market, TONS of hiking at any elevation you wish, Trails (great place to grab a bite to eat), tons of lawn space to picnic, bbq and relax.
We often see coyotes and deer on the golf course.
This is an amazing place - not to be missed.
Plenty of parking - everywhere and it's free!
They do tend to have a lot of construction going on in various different areas of the park and often after dark, expect a delay while driving in/out at times.

MOVIE SPOT! The merry go round is where they've filmed many scenes from lots of films, including FACE OFF (Nicholas Cage) and BEAUTIFUL (Minnie Driver). GREAT place to wander around, have a picnic or BBQ with friends. There are hiking trails and lots of trees for shade. There is a little kiosk where you can buy drinks, sandwiches etc.
