Incredible service. There's a small bar downstairs that serves a mean drink with tasty snacks. Expensive, but worth the splurge.

You can't understand London without seeing places like Claridges. The old aristocratic vibe is undiminished here. Ogle (tastefully) the gorgeous art deco design and soak up the atmosphere that has attracted heads of state and Hollywood stars since its opening in 1856. We recommend afternoon tea here, even if you are not a guest.

The site of Dukes' Bar, where the martinis are some of the best in the world. It was here that inspired Ian Fleming, after a couple of the stiff drinks, to pen the line "shaken, not stirred." The hotel itself is a luxury boutique hotel tucked into a Mayfair side street, central but not noisy, a great little hidey hole.

This little gem of a hotel has got great views of London's rooftops from the rooms' big windows. It's got big rooms for central London, free wifi and breakfast, and a sexy, opulent kind of feeling (helped along by the purple velvety walls in the hallways, and fluffy bathrobes in your room). Definitely a good choice.

A funky little hotel in Soho, with a rarity in London, the city that sleeps...a 24 hour bar. The rooms are thought out in extreme detail, from the REN products to the half bottles of wine and jelly beans that greet you on arrival. In the smaller rooms, there is the diplomatically named "New York style wet room" which basically ...

This Grade II-listed building still retains much of the character of its former life as a magistrates' court with a colourful history. With links to everyone from Charles Dickens and Napoleon, to Oscar Wilde and Mick Jagger, a private cinema, and set in London's theatre and shopping district, this five-star hotel is well worth a visit.

The Thistle Marble Arch has an art deco feeling to it, with a coffee bar in the reception area, lots of marble and 1920s fonts. The service is extremely sweet and accommodating, and the rooms are large for central London. What sticks with me about this place is the contrast between its forbidding brick facade and tending towards the opulent ...

Great service and classic elegance never go out of style and the Stafford has both in spades. When I was at the Stafford in September, I was struck by the subtle yet powerful improvements the hotel has made to itself in recent years. I was expecting the hotel to feel and look more modern, but it looked like the Stafford ...

High tea at the Palm Court in the Langham hotel, awarded the Tea Guild's Top London Afternoon Tea in 2010, is the perfect place for a special occasion. Very scrumptious deserts and great service. Very expensive, though. About £40 per person for tea without champagne. Loved that they served free glass of champagne to mark the transition from day to ...

Think of the most elegant older lady with a bit of hidden sass that you know, imagine her as a hotel and you will have the Landmark. Ask for a room with a view of Hyde Park. Early in the morning you can look out and see people riding their horses. It is near a subway and has the great Hilton lounge for the executive floor guests (great for a fast breakfast, willed with very decent wines and nice appetizers before leaving for dinner.)
