Excellent atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating right along the South Congress sidewalk. Gueros offers delicious and authentic Tex-Mex with generous portions at a reasonable price.

Guero's is the unquestioned epicenter of the SoCo experience. Guero's is one of the places -- some say THE place -- that began the now-long-ago transformation of once-seedy South Congress Avenue into what is now SoCo: the biggest destination magnet in Austin for locals and travelers alike. Top-quality basic and beyond-basic Mexican food. Best mole (pronounced "MOL-eh") in town. Tortillas made fresh, in-house, around the clock when the restaurant is open. Excellent soups, and architecture, ambiance, and decor not to be beaten anywhere in town, with 20-ft celings in a beautifully transformed 100-year-old former Capitol Feed & Seed store. Both Prezes Clinton and Bush have eaten here, and not too long ago, I saw Keith Richards crossing W Elizabeth headed that way. Producers of music and film rub elbows with locat architects, wheeler-dealers, and the occasional vacation rental home owner (when in town) at this great spot. Go for the photos on the wall, but stay for the vittles, great coffee and mixed drinks, and the people-watching. Many weekend nights, and some weekday nights, you can dance to live music under the ancient oaks and the stars in the outdoor Oak Garden. Nice selection of domestic and Mexican beers, and a rendition of the classic Margarita that folks drive across town to get. Go. Eat. Kick back.

What really caught my attention to this place was not the idea of eating at a taco bar but actually the look, decor and large beer menu here. I just loved the seating and all the beer related art work. It has a Latin vibe too, which I found to be very welcoming. That really got me sit down here, well after my wait (prepare for that by the way, this is a very active place but it will be worth the wait)
Overall, a highly enjoyable place, Sunday brunch is a must try for this place. And try to grab a seat outside to enjoy the always sunny Austin weather, plus it can a get a bit loud outside if you're looking to carry on a great conversation over your yummy food, that's something to consider.

Gueros is an Austin Institution. Almost every movie filmed in the state capital has got at least one scene with Gueros either in the background or with the characters inside having some of their trademark killer carnitas or margaritas. Being big in the movies means it's popular with celebs, so it's a hot spot for star gazing too.

I go here often and love the environment. I think the food is on the "good" vs. "great" category but every out-of-towner I take here raves about it. I love the environment. It's one of my favorite spots. Oh, and, they serve traditional non-sweet margaritas here... Very different, very interesting. And with many tequila choices.
