This place is gross and over priced. The best thing about this place is that it's on south congress! Polvos on South 1st puts Guerros to shame. Drinks, food, and service are 100% better. #justfacts

It's an Austin institution. Good and sometimes creative food. Pork and pineapple tacos you say? Why not! And they taste awesome. They're located in the popular South Congress area, near lots of little shops.

Excellent atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating right along the South Congress sidewalk. Gueros offers delicious and authentic Tex-Mex with generous portions at a reasonable price.

Guero's is the unquestioned epicenter of the SoCo experience. Guero's is one of the places -- some say THE place -- that began the now-long-ago transformation of once-seedy South Congress Avenue into what is now SoCo: the biggest destination magnet in Austin for locals and travelers alike. Top-quality basic and beyond-basic Mexican food. Best mole (pronounced "MOL-eh") in town. Tortillas made fresh, in-house, around the clock when the restaurant is open. Excellent soups, and architecture, ambiance, and decor not to be beaten anywhere in town, with 20-ft celings in a beautifully transformed 100-year-old former Capitol Feed & Seed store. Both Prezes Clinton and Bush have eaten here, and not too long ago, I saw Keith Richards crossing W Elizabeth headed that way. Producers of music and film rub elbows with locat architects, wheeler-dealers, and the occasional vacation rental home owner (when in town) at this great spot. Go for the photos on the wall, but stay for the vittles, great coffee and mixed drinks, and the people-watching. Many weekend nights, and some weekday nights, you can dance to live music under the ancient oaks and the stars in the outdoor Oak Garden. Nice selection of domestic and Mexican beers, and a rendition of the classic Margarita that folks drive across town to get. Go. Eat. Kick back.

What really caught my attention to this place was not the idea of eating at a taco bar but actually the look, decor and large beer menu here. I just loved the seating and all the beer related art work. It has a Latin vibe too, which I found to be very welcoming. That really got me sit down here, well after my wait (prepare for that by the way, this is a very active place but it will be worth the wait)
Overall, a highly enjoyable place, Sunday brunch is a must try for this place. And try to grab a seat outside to enjoy the always sunny Austin weather, plus it can a get a bit loud outside if you're looking to carry on a great conversation over your yummy food, that's something to consider.

Gueros is an Austin Institution. Almost every movie filmed in the state capital has got at least one scene with Gueros either in the background or with the characters inside having some of their trademark killer carnitas or margaritas. Being big in the movies means it's popular with celebs, so it's a hot spot for star gazing too.

I go here often and love the environment. I think the food is on the "good" vs. "great" category but every out-of-towner I take here raves about it. I love the environment. It's one of my favorite spots. Oh, and, they serve traditional non-sweet margaritas here... Very different, very interesting. And with many tequila choices.

A true Austin destination for Tex Mex! Located nearby on S. Congress ... you can often find live music under the trees outside.

Great Tex-Mex and margaritas, Gueros is "true Austin" located right in SoCo, a vibrant and funky stretch of Congress Ave. Be flexible with your timing--expect lines during normal hours.

Free live music in the beer garden on the weekends. Not our favorite place for Tex-Mex- very noisy and just okay food.

What could be better than pork and pineapple tacos? The only thing better is those tacos with mimosas! The food is tasty and the weekends offer up live bands. A great hang!

Great margarita's using just fresh squeezed lime juice. If a skinny margarita is what you are looking for, look no further!

Small but mighty margaritas, great fish tacos, and a garden for outdoor music on the weekends. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

This is what I came to Austin looking for! This place has incredible tex mex food and the history behind the place is pretty cool. The sangria was delicious. Try the el pastor!

Mimosas and taquitos on South Congress is the best way to end or start the weekend! Sit indoors or outdoors or at the bar if you want. Great chips and salsa! Big platters. Leave feeling completely satisfied, full and happy. :)

Guero's is an Austin standby-- built in an historic seed & feed store, Guero's has exposed brick walls, lots of old pictures, a cantina feel, amazing margaritas and great enchiladas. Plus, Quentin Tarantino loves this place (part of "Death Proof" was filmed here)--worth getting a tshirt. Grab drinks in the garden and listen to music while you wait for a table.

Description

On the surface, this beloved Austin location seems like it’s just another combination margarita bar and Tex-Mex eatery. However, Guero’s Taco Bar sets itself apart from the rest of the pack by offering exceptional dishes that are carefully prepared. Whether it’s the in house made corn tortillas, or the hand shaken Margaritas, the service at Guero’s is certainly all about keeping things authentic. A large dining menu and an equally large drink menu help keep guests at Guero’s for a while. Not to worry though, since there is frequently live music of some type, making this one of Austin’s most idea places to relax over dinner and a drink.
