I chose the worst time of year to visit Guinea-Bissau. But despite the torrential rains of July and massive mosquito populations, I enjoyed this colorful, under-visited country. It's truly off the beaten path, which means a lack of tourist infrastructure, but a raw look at a country that's rapidly changing, and growing. It just experienced its last coop in 2012, but day to day life seemed stabile and relaxed when I was there. Most people are welcome and friendly, even if not as outwardly so as in neighboring Senegal.
