So much of Florida's Atlantic coast is over-built, especially the beach towns. But this little family-friendly nature center set among the dunes is an escape. Come to take a stroll along the boardwalk, peer at the saltwater aquarium tanks or get immersed in the butterfly garden. You can check out the sea turtle rehabilitation center, too. Call ahead to find out which evenings (late May to early July) they're going to hold turtle walks, when you might see loggerheads nesting in the sand.Recommended for:

I saw my first sea turtles at Gumbo Limbo. Here many of the animals that have been harmed by boating accidents or pollution are rehabilitated. You can also get a close up look at rays and various other saltwater fish. A 40 foot wooden tower gives you a bird's eye view over much of the preserve and the ocean beyond.
