It's in the city but a great place to visit. The Palace is mostly not original since the Japanese destroyed most of it when they took over the country but the Korean government decided to restore the palace. There is an audio guide in multiple languages and plenty to see. Plan on having at least a few hours to walk around.

Gyeongbokgung (literally translated as Greatly Blessed by Heaven Palace) is the easiest royal palace to visit as it lies right in the metropolitan city of Seoul. It's the main and largest palace from the Joseon Dynasty.
The palace is large so do put aside several hours to visit, if you want to see it at a leisurely pace!
