Gyeongbokgung

161, Sajik-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea
10 reviews

Gyeongbokgung was originally built during Korea's Joseon dynasty, first meant to house King Taejo. The original was destroyed by the Japanese, but the palace and the grounds have been restored beautifully. Today, the palace sits just to the west of the lovely Seochon neighborhood, north of Insadong, and near the historical Bukchon neighborhood. It's proximity to these places, as well ...

    Gyeongbokgung Palace

    0.0 mi from Gyeongbokgung
    62 reviews

Walking through Gyeongbok Palace is something of a dream. We came here early in the morning, the South Korean chill sneaking into our layers of winter wear. Everything seemed to have a crystalline quality, from the calm lake to the barely moving trees. The historic temples, so large they could be described as imposing, were impressive sites to walk through. ...

    National Folk Museum of Korea

    0.17 mi from Gyeongbokgung
    2 reviews

One of the 'must visit' place in Seoul. This is the best museum in Korea I've ever been. Their exhibit is very intimate. Not just showing things from the past in the glass compartments, they actually built an old style houses in the museum so we can sit and feel what it's like. You can learn about history, culture, food, ...

This has many treasures. I loved the artifacts but most of all what royal life looked like was my favorite. What was the best feature was the modern facilities and air conditioning.

    Gagarin Used Book Store

    0.23 mi from Gyeongbokgung
    1 review

Gagarin is a great used book store in the Seochon neighborhood. It has a bunch of used design and art books which are fun to leaf through even if you aren't in the market for a 20-pound volume on typography. The woman that works the store most days is really sweet, and they also sell some artsy trinkets by local ...

This is my favorite palace in Seoul (and I have been to basically all of them). The Secret Garden tour, in particular, is excellent, but you may have to book in advance. Go in the spring or fall for the most beautiful conditions.

Quite a good place to go. But better go with sam-cheong dong, because its not worth to go there just for Hanok. A good place for historical siteseeing.

    Jogyesa Temple (조계사)

    0.48 mi from Gyeongbokgung
    3 reviews

The pre-eminent Buddhist temple within downtown Seoul, Jogyesa is the seat of the Jogye order of Korean Buddhism, and makes an excellent stop while you're in the central Gwanghwamun / Insadong neighborhood. I've taken lots of visitors to the city to this small, pretty collection of traditional pavilions, with their enormous ornate Buddhas, but my fondest memories of it come ...

I liked Gyeonbuk palace better than this palace. During my visit one section of the palace is under renovation. But this palace right next to the city hall makes it more convenient to visit. Jongno

    0.71 mi from Gyeongbokgung
    7 reviews

Jongno is the center of Seoul - transportation, history, culture, and art, but most of all - street food. The street might be filled with people during the day, but it will be replaced with the bright-light street food vendors cart at night. Great price, and great atmosphere to check out some of the best street foods in Seoul.

Huge central plaza in front of Gyeongbukgong Palace, and easily accessible through the city subway. Check out the statue of King Sejong at the middle of the square - there's an entrance at the back leading to an underground museum dedicated to the life and works of Sejong The Great.

An awesome comedic theater performance! There isn't much talking, but a lot of action and hilarious gestures and facial expressions. It's a story surrounding food, people, music, and some audience participation. If you are looking for fun entertainment, this would be it!

I learned so much about Korea at this Museum. This place opened up my eyes and allowed me to see more of Korea that I never knew, from their pivotal roll in history to the fight during the Korean War. I would recommend this place for families and anyone who is just curious.

Changgyeonggung is one of the big palaces in Seoul. The grounds are very scenic. During the colonial period, the Japanese built a zoo and botanic garden on the grounds, so not many of the original buildings remain. I recommend this as one of the most interesting palaces in Seoul.
