Gyeongbokgung was originally built during Korea's Joseon dynasty, first meant to house King Taejo. The original was destroyed by the Japanese, but the palace and the grounds have been restored beautifully. Today, the palace sits just to the west of the lovely Seochon neighborhood, north of Insadong, and near the historical Bukchon neighborhood. It's proximity to these places, as well ...

This is the largest palace in Seoul. Some of the rooms have furniture. Many are closed. There is a lot of walking. Don't forget to go all the way in the back. There is a beautiful garden and pond. Next to the national folk museum.

An attraction inside the famed Gyeongbok Palace, a casual museum with many sections, we visited the one that highlights the lifetime of a Korea person, our tour guide was very good and informative. Excellent stop inside the palace.

This has many treasures. I loved the artifacts but most of all what royal life looked like was my favorite. What was the best feature was the modern facilities and air conditioning.

    0.52 mi from Gyeongbokgung

North of the palace and Seochon is Bukchon, a uniquely historical neighborhood that is not to be missed when traveling in Seoul. The streets are lined with traditional Korean hanoks (some lived in, some not) and the neighborhood boasts quaint cafes and restaurants. Though Bukchon is certainly not going through as much of a modern revolution as Seochon, it's proximity ...

The pre-eminent Buddhist temple within downtown Seoul, Jogyesa is the seat of the Jogye order of Korean Buddhism, and makes an excellent stop while you're in the central Gwanghwamun / Insadong neighborhood. I've taken lots of visitors to the city to this small, pretty collection of traditional pavilions, with their enormous ornate Buddhas, but my fondest memories of it come ...

This palace is situated near Seochon, Bukchon, and Gyeonbokgung, and I prefer the grounds to those of Gyeongbok palace. In the summer, this place is absolutely beautiful, and the outdoor gardens, greenhouses, and ponds are a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. There are walking tours available at the entrances to all the palaces if you're interested in brushing ...

    0.91 mi from Gyeongbokgung
    28 reviews

The entire City Hall area has just undergone a renovation and the new building looks great. Plus, the police will no longer bother you for sitting on the grass on a nice day...providing that you're not with a group larger than, say, three people. Mass gathering and protesting is still prohibited on the lawn.

Jongno is the center of Seoul - transportation, history, culture, and art, but most of all - street food. The street might be filled with people during the day, but it will be replaced with the bright-light street food vendors cart at night. Great price, and great atmosphere to check out some of the best street foods in Seoul.

Huge central plaza in front of Gyeongbukgong Palace, and easily accessible through the city subway. Check out the statue of King Sejong at the middle of the square - there's an entrance at the back leading to an underground museum dedicated to the life and works of Sejong The Great.

I learned so much about Korea at this Museum. This place opened up my eyes and allowed me to see more of Korea that I never knew, from their pivotal roll in history to the fight during the Korean War. I would recommend this place for families and anyone who is just curious.

This charming enclave is only a five minute walk from Insadong's entrance near Anguk Station, but it feels like a world away. The little neighborhood, off the beaten path for the typical tourist, is teeming with modern art museums, unique boutiques, adorable cafes and high-end restaurants. It's the most "New York" part of Seoul. Spend an afternoon strolling in and ...

An awesome comedic theater performance! There isn't much talking, but a lot of action and hilarious gestures and facial expressions. It's a story surrounding food, people, music, and some audience participation. If you are looking for fun entertainment, this would be it!

Changgyeonggung is one of the big palaces in Seoul. The grounds are very scenic. During the colonial period, the Japanese built a zoo and botanic garden on the grounds, so not many of the original buildings remain. I recommend this as one of the most interesting palaces in Seoul.
