Heaps has been written about the Wall, what can I say. I just think its fantastic to be able to walk along this structure and to see the size and extent of associated constructions from 2000 years ago.

Hadrian's Wall spans from the west to the east coast of this northern area of England, but the portion of the wall near Hexham has many of the most interesting sites to visit. The ancient Roman fort of Vindolanda is just south of the Wall. You can visit the ongoing excavations of the many buildings and visit the Roman Army Museum which displays some of the fascinating finds from the dig.

On the Wall itself, you can walk along side or for portions, on top of the Wall and visit Housesteads Fort, the most complete Roman fort in Britain, with remains of granaries, barracks, a hospital and a multi-seated latrine all still visible.
