On Friday nights, Hanapepe town is where you want to be for an art gallery walk and street festival with live music, food trucks and a real local community spirit. It'll only take you an hour to stroll between all the shops, get a snack and hang out, but it's worth the trip over here to Kauai's West Side for something much more authentic than you'll get at Poipu Beach or Princeville resorts.

Hanapepe is a charming slice of the older Kauai It has interesting galleries and wonderful places to eat. Try Little Fish Coffee for a great cup of java. A great family beach is nearby at Salt Pond Beach. Friday evenings bring a great Art Crawl. The Swinging Bridge is fun and you can hike up the canyon along the canal..

This store has all sorts of spices and more! Just a cute store in the small town of Hanapepe! It is also right in front of the Hanapepe swinging bridge!

Hanapepe is an old Hawaiian sugar cane town that has been revitalized with a new identity, as an Art Village. Every Friday is their Art Walk, where galleries open up and display their pieces, most filled with island related subjects, and art loving tourists come to town to drink wine, dine, and see the art.

For the attraction seeker, the other notable item is the Hanapepe walking bridge, a suspended rope bridge that is worth a walk across or two if you have never been on this type of tropical pathway.

Find Hotels in Hanapepe:

Hanapepe’s economy is very much focused around offering visitors a large selection of locally made arts and crafts. There are a number of galleries and boutiques set up in this area that contain thousands of examples of Hawaiian artwork of varying quality. This south Kauai area is truly a Mecca for artists and craftsmen. There is such an artistic presence here that across the Hanepepe River at Eleele residents are making an effort to expand their artistic offerings so to get in on the action. Of course, it wouldn’t be Kauai without some stunning natural attractions, of which the before mentioned river crossing point is home to a rope bridge that is an attraction to some and very much repulsive to others. There are also a few quality beaches located around here, but again, the real reason to visit Hanepepe is for the shopping.
