The best thing about the Harding Hotel is that it’s a short stumble from Temple Bar but not so close you get woken up in the night. The room I was in was clean enough, but the bathroom was at the stage on the clean/dirty scale where you seriously consider wearing flip-flops in the shower. On the whole I’m not sure it’s much of a step up from the small rooms you can get in most hostels. They’ve got a pub of their own next door called Darkey Kelly’s – there’s a legend of some kind that explains the name, but it’s probably best not try delve too deep into that. On the whole, if you’re not too picky and your travel plan does not involve a lot of hotel time, the price and location make the Harding hard to beat.

The Harding is the kind of hotel that has an external door to nowhere off the second floor hallway. I would guess there was originally supposed to be a fire escape outside but as it stands it’s just a sheer drop – I didn’t check but I’m assuming the door’s kept locked. The rest of the hotel shows about the same level of care and attention to detail. The bedrooms aren’t unpleasant but just don’t seem like a lot of thought has gone into them. The bathroom was clean but could do with being re-caulked/re-grouted. On the plus side, the Harding is not far from Temple Bar and the main city shopping areas around Grafton Street and seeing as it’s budget-friendly you can save your money for shopping and partying.
