Basically a shopping area. Traffic is difficult. Spent a long time trying to find an ATM. Fairly inoffensive but apart from the Opera House there's not much to it.

Breath-taking interior to what is otherwise a rather innocuous looking building. The rotunda and great hall especially will stay with you and the spiel on the robing room is fun.

Also a church of Ireland cathedral but far more austere than Christchurch in dub line. Reminds me of muensters on the continent.

What to say? Formally known as 'The Royal Mile', it's a chilling experience. Only part of Belfast which made me wonder if the Troubles are really over. The burnt out city blocks for bonfires and the competing murals were surprising, but there's still not the tension of Londonderry/Derry about it.

Well, okay, wouldn't be my first choice but charming for families and indicative of how Belfast embraced the zeitgeist of the noughties!

A lot of shoppes to visit. Once all the younger kids get out of school it becomes packed. Wasn't an issue for me but I understand for some people it can be annoying.

Must be seen to be believed. Amazing murals illustrating the city's history of religious strife and the sympathy of the IRA for the PLO and various Latin American movements. Best seen for city bus.

The fact that I've been here and don't remember much about it means you can probably safely give it a pass. Basically a commercial venture.

Definitely worth doing. The tour is well-organised and even for someone who works on British history, the tour provided insights into The Troubles.

Belfast isn't the prettiest city in the world, but the people are incredibly friendly and the history is compelling. One of the most interesting things to do in Belfast is go on a tour with a local historian. The black taxi tour operators are some of the most knowledgable, and will give you a thorough accounting of how The Troubles ...
