Got a great recommendation when we were in Picton. Havelock is a little port town on the way between Picton and Nelson on the north coast of the South Island. There isn't much to do there but there is a very nice restaurant called the Slip Inn with some of the most delicious mussel dishes I have ever had! Great place to stop on your way around the South Island.
