If you want ice cream, but not your usual flavors, come to Heladeria Lares. You can get homemade ice cream with flavors like corn, garlic, rice with beans, cod fish, coffee, arroz con dulce (this one is like a typical rice pudding from Puerto Rico, my favorite), coquito (a typical coconut drink here), sesame seed along with normal flavors if you don't feel that adventurous...But really, will you travel this far just to get chocolate or vanilla ice cream?
Sometimes long lines mostly on weekends and the prices are reasonable, about $2.50 and up. They are open from Wednesday to Sunday. About an hour either from San Juan or from Ponce if you are visiting any of these two places. About twenty minutes from Arecibo, if you are visiting the Arecibo Observatory you can go there afterwards.
