Kenya's smallest National Park, it is void of loins and big predators, which means you can bicycle through it, hike, and camp. You can hire bikes at the entrance, but choose carefully as they are not all in good repair. In the park, bike with herds of zebras, giraffes, wart hogs, buffaloes, and other savanna animals. Hike down to the gorge at the end of the road (guide recommended) and cruise through the slot canyon. Worth the trip!

Do not use bicycle or walk inside, there are wildhogs everywhere, do not take the risk, drive inside and walk inside the gorge with the guide

Now, I'm no animal expert, but it seemed like a walking safari was a bad idea. But, I guess if your national park doesn't have any lions, what the hell?

There are actually many walking safaris in Africa; who knew? I walked just Hell's Gate so I can't really compare, but I do have to say: being on a foot when you run into a herd of gazelle or a family of giraffe is pretty dang cool.

Description

Hell’s Gate sets itself apart from Kenya’s other national parks in more ways than one. In addition to the fact that no other East African park hosts an annual wheelbarrow race, Hell’s Gate is visually and logistically different from the others. The area’s volcanic terrain and geothermal features create a unique, picturesque landscape. The park’s regulations, that allow you to cycle or walk through ... read more
the park, are unheard of in most African parks where big game is present. Zebra, buffalo, giraffe, and baboons are often spotted. Though cheetahs, leopards, and hyena are park residents, they’re rarely seen... which cyclists and hikers both seem to appreciate. Local guides accompany visitors just in case, though.
