A statue of Oscar Wilde at Merrion Square park. No visit is complete to Dublin without a visit to Oscar's old neighbourhood. It's quite close to Government Buildings (Leinster House) and is a nice escape from the traffic.

Cool pub with an authentic feel in the Dame Lane area. We hung out upstairs. There was a live band playing Irish folk music, pints of Guinness were flowing and there was a very lively and charming atmosphere.

The Custom House opened for business in 1791. It cost £200,000 to build and was almost destroyed during the War of Independence in 1921. James Gandon was the architect, and this fine neoclassical building, now houses the Department of the Environment.

For the Temple Bar area, this is actually a really large bar (it also houses a restaurant and hostel). I had the pleasure of seeing Tim Robbins perform here (it's a really small venue) and really have to recommend it to any bar-goer in Dublin. True, all bars in Dublin are relatively similar: they all serve beer, they all play ...

Lots of high street names and a few independents. A handy place at the top of Grafton Street in which to shop or snack if it is raining outside. There is a very good ice cream place without seating downstairs at the back of the building and multistorey car parking on site.

A great pint & some fine Ballad sessions. The downside like a lot of bars in Temple Bar is that it gets pretty crowded.

Another pub but brighter (but perhaps not as much character) as O'Neil's. Had for dinner a beef stew-like dish (I am not much of a beef eater), that was the best meal I had in a week in Ireland.

This is a really cool street lined with great pubs on both sides. Tends to be packed most nights. Great place to get a taste of Irish drinking culture - you can hop from one pub to the next, many with live music.

    George's Street Arcade

George's Arcade is a treasure trove of small shops & stalls, contained within a red-bricked Victorian style building. Music, Art bohemian clothes, a mish-mash really that is quite popular, with tourists, students and locals. It certainly makes a change from the high street, and has a slightly Camden feel about it.

This is a fine place for a few drinks and a proper feed. They've got a wide range of domestic and international craft beers, which is unfortunately a rarity in Dublin. The gastropub-style restaurant is a good choice for an upmarket take on fish and chips or bangers and mash.

Dublin's premier gay bar and dance club-- at least, that's what I was told. From the outside, a stately old building-- definitely not out of place in historic downtown Dublin. I walked past it a couple times, actually, because the building just doesn't look like a club. Step inside, however, and the blinding light of fabulousness overwhelms. When the technicolor ...
