The grandness and open space leaves you in awe. Loads of historical and political connections to this area. I really recommend a visit.

This is one of the most visited attractions in Budapest. Soaring above Heroes' Square is the Millennium Column, the focal point of the Millennium Monument. The column is topped with a statue of the archangel Gabriel.

Large square that dates from the days of the Hapsburgs but was used more recently for communist demonstrations and rallies. Contains the Museum of Fine Arts and the Palace of Arts

Hero Square is one of the more prominent landmarks in Pest. The monument in the center depicts the original Magyar chieftains who conquered the Danubian plain and founded Hungary. The statues along the surrounding arcade are images of Hungaria kings and other notable historic figures. In front of the monument is Andrassy Avenue while behind the square is one of Budapest's main parks.

During the communist era May Day parades were held in Hero Square.

We saw Heroes' Square in passing while walking along Andrássy Avenue. It's a monument dedicated to those who gave their lives for the freedom of the Hungarian people and features columned tributes to several famed heroes of Hungary.

Hosok Tere or Hero Square at the end of Andrassy Ut is a splendid town square that commemorates the 7 chieftains who brought the Magyar tribe to Hungary. One of the most visited places in Buda. Truly fantastique.

It's a really stunning square surrounded by old, beautiful buildings. The statues are fascinating, they kind of reminded me of the Ringwraiths from The Lord of the Rings.

Pretty much the 'centre' of the Pest side of Budapest. Great monument to the Magyars nobility who ruled Hungary for nearly a thousand years.

A must see while in the area. There's a story behind each statue and monument. Make sure to take a local guide with you to explain all the history!

Description:

The Archangel Gabriel looks over Hősök tere (“Heroes’ Square”) in Budapest. Surrounding him are the seven chiefs of the Magyar tribes that once lived in this part of town. The plaza is a war memorial, a popular attraction for both tourists and skaters, bordered by several art museums. Completed during the turn of the 20th century, the square’s rich history takes it through Soviet-era Budapest.
