This is a dated hotel with 133 rooms. The room has two double beds, a small bathroom, old-looking furniture, a small TV, and a small refrigerator. But at least it’s clean and comfortable. The swimming pool can be a place for relaxing and reading a book, but I would rather go across the street to sit by the water of Hilo Bay.
Wi-Fi can only be accessed in the lobby, but it’s free.
The best sight of this hotel is the nice garden with koi pond in front of the entrance.
Hallways are decorated with old Hawaiian quilts. Decor throughout the property is outdated.
A restaurant, called the Ponds is located across the street. The Hilo Bay marina is right across the street with boats docked there ready for sailing.
Hilo downtown is close-by. Don’t miss the Hilo Farmers’ Market and the stretch of shops along the downtown main street.

The Hilo Seaside Hotel sits near the edge of Reeds Bay at the eastern end of Hilo. While the property is old, the hotel provides pretty much all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. There’s a garden and swimming pool in the courtyard, and a nice koi pond at the entrance. Parking is available along the edge of the building.
The rooms are comfortable but very much dated. It’s like an old apartment room. You do get a mini-fridge, a microwave, a flat-screen television, a writing desk and a coffeemaker, but that’s about it. For Wi-Fi, you’ll need to head back out into the lobby.
Aside from the Hawaiian quilts throughout the property, the hotel is sparsely decorated. The garden was a nice addition, and the pool area is quite spacious. There’s a restaurant on premises with a buffet set-up and another privately run restaurant across the street. Otherwise, your best bet for quality food is to head into downtown Hilo.

For the price it worked for us. We were not looking for a resort. We just wanted to sit by the pool or the beach and just relax. The hotel definitely needs a make over but it is worth a stay if you don't want anything fancy.

Hey, its a not a 5 star chain, this is a local hotel that does the trick . Ya you might find a roach in your room - but you are in Hilo! Its cheap, efficient, great location and very homey. If you want to spend just one night in Hilo, dont pay more and stay in an overpriced and underwhelming hotel, just do local and stay at the Seaside. Don't miss breakfast at Coconuts Grill while you are at it. If you get drunk and need a midnight snack you can probably succcessfully stumble to Ken's House of Pancakes (24 hours) from door to door in 5 minutes. Great outpost for Hilo adventure if you dont want high-end or B&B. Yes its well loved and run down but it works and especially for the pricepoint.
