From the inside, the Hilton Kilmainham is pretty hard to distinguish from any other large chain hotel in any other city. That’s not to say that the hotel doesn’t have great facilities, but it’s just not particularly characterful. The facilities are actually pretty impressive – swanky conference rooms, a large fitness room, a hydrotherapy pool and comfortable, clean-lined rooms with great views, especially from the higher floors. The location is less impressive – while there are some things to do in the immediate vicinity (Dublin Zoo, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the excellent Kilmainham Gaol), you’ll probably want to access the city centre and if you don’t have a car that will involve either a taxi or a 10 minute walk followed by a 20 minute tram ride.

For a medium-sized hotel, the Hilton Dublin Kilmainham has spectacular views. It’s perched on top of a hill that makes it a great vantage point seeing the Phoenix Park to the north and the Wicklow Mountains to the south. I would definitely spring for the rooms on the top floor with access to the terrace. In other respects, the hotel is all you would expect from a Hilton – it seems built of a sturdy, everyday luxury that you’d only notice if it went missing. It hasn’t got the most convenient location for getting into the city, but there are regular trams about ten minutes away by foot. I’d stay here just to use their pool, which seems to have been designed as a cross between a regular pool and a hot tub: the water is hotter than normal, there are jets everywhere, and—for real swimmers—one end is set up with a current you can swim against.Recommended for:Business Travelers

Located outside the city centre, but on numerous transport routes, the Hilton in Kilmainham is great if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the Centre.
There is more of a boutique feel about this hotel compared to the stereotypical image of a Hilton, and it is a smaller hotel than the standard chain. The lobby is clean and furnished with ample couches and comfy chairs but there is a ‘generic, business’ atmosphere and it is clear that the hotel is primarily used for conferences. The bedrooms are a good size and views from both the east and south facing balconies are spectacular. The winning point in this hotel however is the leisure centre, complete with Hydrotherapeutic pool – meaning it is more spa like that the standard -, as well as a well equipped gym and sauna and steam room. Located near to the Phoenix Park it is a good option for families and the hotel even runs package deals with the Zoo nearby.
