- Hilton Head Marriott Resort & SpaSep 13, 2013
This Marriott has the distinction of being the island’s pioneer hotel and its largest and tallest – 10 stories, the , with the most meeting space. Yet one would not guess that it is c. 1970s, in that recent renovations have kept it current, last year’s installed flat-screen, 37” TVs. Rooms could be larger but love those writing desks. One of the most well run of the full-service hotels, it has a lot going for it: the beach in its ‘lap;” so many rooms have Atlantic views from their balconies; lush, creatively landscaped grounds; a fun pool scene with a bar serving lunch; Hammock Row overlooking the ocean; an indoor domed pool; Spa Soleil with a litany of treatments; Conroy’s, the restaurant named for South Carolina’s colorful author, Pat Conroy. Love all of the photos of the movies that were adapted from his books. Come summer, families arrive, children (many, many children) geared for the elaborate kids’ activities like sand castle making. The fairy-tale sand castle in the lobby is a hotel tradition.Recommended for:Family Travelers
