For a regal, classic twist – but with all the modern amenities – you can’t beat Hilton Milwaukee City Center. Last year’s renovations put the building’s historic charm – it was recently added to the National Historic Register, mainly for its Art Deco architecture – into even more acclaim, with crystal chandeliers, a crackling fireplace and full bar in the Monarch Lounge; and the gold-plated elevators. A new navy/gold color scheme in the rooms comes with porthole mirrors on each side of the bed (one example of the rooms’ hip, mod design details.) Some rooms have a pullout bed within the sofa, a boon for a small group wishing to share a room, and all have a flat-screen television. The downstairs-level Starbucks (accessible from within the hotel or off of Wisconsin Avenue) features bits and pieces of the Art Deco architecture, and Milwaukee Chophouse dinners are locally famous. For a more casual meal, or a beer on tap, check out Miller Time Pub, also in the hotel.
