Hodad's is a popular funky burger joint in Ocean Beach. The burgers are touted as being the best in the world. It can get very crowded. It's a bit pricey: a burger, fries, and a drink is around $13.

Bacon. Bacon. Bacon. I love Bacon! The secret recipe to everything.... add BACON!
Seriously, don't bother ordering anything else here. Do yourself a favor and get the bacon miniburger! We ordered the normal burger and the chicken sandwich as well and the bacon burger destroyed the other two burgers. Also, they have the best milk shakes here, very rich and goes down so smooth. I'm lactose intolerant but I still loved the chocolate milk shake here!
Who cares if the place looks danky and has graffiti all over the place. Who cares if the restrooms are some of the nastiest I've ever seen. Who cares if you need to have at least 3 tattoos to work here XD. They have hands down, the best bacon burger I've ever had. Also, the burger for $4 is not too bad, however, the shake is $4 as well, but you can share it.
Do the right thing and get the BACON burger! Whoever goes to Hodad's and doesn't get the bacon burger, all I have to say is... I PITY THE FOOL!

Like In-N-Out on steroids. Once, I split a double cheeseburger, an order of frings, and a milkshake and I could barely walk out of the place. The shakes are so thick you can barely drink them with a straw.

YOU MUST EAT HERE!!! If you are a burgers, fries and onion rings fan then you can't miss Hodads!! The location in ocean beach is the original hole in the wall joint, but they do have a new location in downtown that is just as good (minus the beachy atmosphere). Careful though, the lines can be long and it's a small place- be prepared to wait over an hour if you go during peak lunch/dinner times. This place was also featured on the Food Network with Guy Fieri!

a san diego classic! a classic disappointment!
when i went to san diego to visit an ex girlfriend of mine everyone talked constantly about the best burger anywhere being at hodads. well after a week of craving i finally got my fix on this only to be let down. at first sight of my burger i was almost afraid and excited to get my mouth on this bad boy asap. i then realized there was a meat patty in there somewhere with all of that extra and unnecessary onion, lettuce, tomato and other things to trick you into thinking size does matter. finding it would be hard and very uncomfortable to eat i dumped about half a pound of produce so i could eat this thing finally.
i found the burger to be tasteless and very dry. the meat was chewy and very rubbery. this would definitely not be the best burger i had ever had. the sweet potato fries were really good but that didn't make the overall burger experience any better.
cool place if you want to meet your dream surfer girl or start up a limp bizkit cover band but i think i'll pass next time.
