The Hofbrauhaus is probably the most famous brewery and pub in Munich. Located just off Marienplatz, it is typically packed day and night. The Hofbrau tent also figures prominently during Oktoberfest.Recommended for:

No trip to Munich could be complete without a stop here! The pretzels the beer, the brats, all amazing!
Word to the wise, don't sit down at a table with a table cloth on it unless invited. That's for the locals, and is frowned upon. Fortunately there was a group that thought us charming (ok probably more hilarious) that we knew how to polka, and proceeded to do said dance in front of the band, which they loved... but again, maybe because 2 girls were dancing, who knows. They didn't speak much English, us not much German, but we still had a blast!
If you get the bratwurst in the pot of water, which I recommend, i was literally slapped and the fork knocked out of my hand. I guess you are supposed to pick it up with your fingers and slurp the meat out of the casing... Delicious, but weird, but whatever. You can't really go wrong with any beer, I recommend the Dunkel Weissen (yes a dark light beer, delicious!) And you can never go wrong getting a pretzel the size of your head. Ever.Recommended for:

It's the Hofbrahaus in Germany...it's like a taste of Valhalla! Awesome beers in giant steins. I went by myself, sat down at a table full of American GI's and Australian girls and had a blast...Recommended for:

De rigeur for a first trip to Munich. The main attraction is the beer, served in 1 liter mugs. They also serve gigantic soft pretzels to help soak it up. Kitschy (the waitstaff is clad in liederhosen) but fun.Recommended for:

Great place if you want to see part of the culture of Munich and drink the famous german beer! The minimum cup there is 1L! The staff wear tipical germany clothes and you can have fun listening the Germans singing local songs in germany while they make a toast (lot of times in the night) :D! Very nice place!
