Unlike a lot of hotels that used to be hostels—where low ceilings and ultra-small rooms are dead giveaways—you’d never suspect the Holiday Inn Express had a secret past. It’s probably because they tore down the existing building and started over from scratch. The hotel prides itself on its generous room sizes, particularly the suites. Word has it that in 2013, they are adding 13, two-story loft suites with balconies.
It’s a popular spot for tour groups—some of whom book their blocks of rooms up to a year in advance—as well as families. I like that the Continental breakfast is included free of charge, and that WiFi is free throughout the property. Parking is about $20 per night, which is pretty reasonable for this area. There’s no actual restaurant onsite, so no room service either, but there’s plenty to eat down the street at Hollywood & Highland.Recommended for:

I’ve been to Holiday Inn Express hotels around the world and this one definitely competes (though the one in China was actually better!) The rooms here are big and comfy, and I love their excellent beds. It’s easy to walk to Hollywood and Highland for shopping, plus they have a bunch of really good restaurants too. Mann’s Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame is right next door. Tons of great stuff for kids—my son really dug Ripley’s Believe It or Not and the nearby wax museum, but his favorite thing was the gigantic family-size hot fudge sundae at the soda shop right next to the El Capitan theater. It was so big Japanese tourists took photos of us eating it! Another bonus of the location is that it’s 5 minutes from Universal Studios, and you can take a cheap cab instead of expensive parking.Recommended for:

This is a simple place that anyone who has never been to Hollywood would appreciate.
It is clean and close to all tourist attractions.
I would say be careful walking around at night,
The area gets a little seedy after dark but that is when all of the characters come out.Recommended for:

If you're partying it up in Hollywood and don't or can't drive home. Check into the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites to sleep for a few hours. It'll do you some good to sober up here rather than be a menace on the streets of LA after last call. The desk is open 24 hours and the staff is rather friendly.
