- Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Washington-National ArboretumOct 28, 2013
This is a great hotel in an unattractive area. It rises up above signs for the highway and is ringed by McDonald’s, KFC and 7-Eleven. Only four years old, everything is in great shape and new-looking. There’s a fitness room, indoor pool and hot tub. Continental breakfast is included – you really couldn’t ask for more. The location isn’t great, but it’s far enough away from the really dangerous neighborhoods not to be a serious problem. It’s part of a small cluster of hotels way outside of downtown that’s the first place you come to if you’re wandering into town from I-95 without reservations anywhere. With a rate of $109, it’s cheap, but you can honestly get pretty close to that at much better hotels downtown. But you have to count parking. Here, it’s $15 a day. Across the street at the clean and adequate Days Inn, it’s $5. Downtown, you couldn’t get it for a penny under $25, and most of the nice places charge $48.

I stayed at this hotel for a couple nights in May 2012. There was a problem with the reservation via booking.com and at the time of check-in, I was given a room with only one bed. The problem was solved and I finally got my room with 2 queen beds. The room was more than OK: 2 big TVs, 2 queen beds really confortable and the bathroom was very nice too. (I'm not sure wheter the room was a suite or not) Besides that the hotel includes a shuttle service to Union Station which is very handy since the hotel is quite far from all the main attractions in DC. The breakfast was average as it is in all Holiday Inn Express (nothing impressive)
