Holiday Inn Santiago Airport

Armando Cortinez Norte 2150, Santiago, Chile
4
4 reviews

This is definitely the nicest and most convenient airport hotel I've stayed in. It's immediately across from baggage claim/departures. The indoor pool was a great welcome for our child. Decent breakfast is included, decent but over priced dinner. Wine is ridiculously over priced compared to the rest of Chile.

If it's not too smoggy, one of the best birds eye views of Santiago is from Cerro San Cristobal, a huge hill rising about 1000 feet over the city. At the top, there's an enormous statue of the Virgen Mary as well as a church and amphitheater--Pope John Paul II gave mass here in the 1980s. My favorite way to ...

Local comedians usually perform in the square and it's a great place to try some of Chile's best street food. Plaza de Armas is located next to the Methropolitan Cathedral which ...

La Moneda Palace is where the President of Chile sits. The constructions of the building was started in the 18th century but it was finished in 1929. Its architectural style is neoclassical. The building's history is also interesting: during 1973's military coup d'état it was bombarded by the Army. It is also one of the places where Chileans gather when ...

Chile is famous for its amazing seafood and the Mercado Central may be one of the best places to try some. Although its a little bit on the expensive side, it definetely deserves a visit if you consider yourself a foodie. The market was inaugurated in 1872 and its cast-iron roof is also an amazing sight for architecture fans.

This is a great place to people watch. It's also a great place to fountain watch, bird watch, dancing-youth watch, jogger-watch, and ice-cream-seller watch. Though it's narrow, and you never really evade the sound of the costanera highway on one side of you and the Alameda on the other, it's still a marvelous oasis.

This is one of the nicest areas of Santiago to just walk around in. Without a doubt, this is one of Santiago's best museums. It has an extensive--and impressive--collection of pre-colombian artifacts spanning six different regions in the Americas. There often are temporary exhibits that are well worth your while too (the last time I visited, there was an awesome pre-colombian gold exhibit). An easy place to spend a morning or an entire day, ...

The Iglesia de San Francisco is the oldest building in Santiago, having survived numerous earthquakes and other natural disasters. The Church was constructed in 1618, and replaced the original Chapel built by Santiago's founder, Pedro de Valdivia. Inside the Iglesia you'll find the 4 foot statue of the Virgin Mary (thought to have miraculous powers) brought to Santiago by Valdivia.

I first stumbled on Paseo Ahumada before I realized it was a local landmark, because someone said that's where I could get film developed. I now love coming here to grab a frozen yogurt or a coffee, or to sit down for a completo (hotdog), and watch the people bustling by. To me, this is the heart of Santiago.

They say that anything grown in Chile can be found in Vega Central, and I believe it. The trick would be finding it, in the acres of stalls competing for your attention.
