Rent a cruiser for the island - locals never drive during the summer. Especially good for the Fourth of July, do NOT get in your car! Rent a mountain bike for some local mountain biking (good rides out toward Cuyamaca; closest are in the canyon near Balboa Park) or rent a road bike and go down the Strand, around the Bay, or take the ferry across the Bay and ride out to Pt. Loma. Excellent food/coffee shops along the way. We like the bakery Con Pane, near High Tech High in Liberty Station area, on the way back from riding the Tide Pools at Pt. Loma (a wicked hill, not for the faint of heart). Riding round the Bay, hit the National City Marina for an egg burrito or mimosa; or closer to the ferry on the San Diego side, try the Brickyard Coffee & Tea. For more of a family ride, we will take the ferry over and ride to Pizza Nova or Point Loma Seafoods for lunch, then ride back and enjoy the Urban Trees along the Embarcadero before reboarding ferry back to Coronado.
