A Hollywood Must-See! Walk (less than a mile, 15 minutes) or take the Metrorail connecting bus on La Brea to the Hollywood Highland Center - a destination in itself: site of the Oscars, movie iconic characters and hop-on/hop-off tour buses on the street, designer shops, cheap-to-expensive eats, and much more! Walk to the upper level bridge and there before you is the panoramic view of the Hollywood sign.

Another great PHP hike. This hike is about 7 miles, and well worth it. The views are breathtaking, especially early morning when you see the sun rise and the clouds over Los Angeles. There are different ways to approach this hike, but each way has great views. You go from dirt road to fire road all the way up.
Parking is at the Observatory, or street parking. This is also an awesome night hike, because of the city views you would get to see once your up at the sign. The beauty of city lights from above.
Great hike, not overly difficult, and you get to enjoy some great views of the city from 360 degrees.
Also after the hike, you are close enough to get some great grub! A must hike for anyone that wants to see the Hollywood sign up close and personal.

Perhaps the most iconic of all L.A. sights, it is impressive to look at and might just put a chill down your spine knowing you're actually there gawking at such an internationally well-known landmark. However, it can be very tricky in terms of driving around Griffith Park in hopes of obtaining the closest view of the gleaming white letters. The roads are winding and signage to the sign are seemingly non-existent. Get good directions from locals or a good map ahead of time. There is a short, quasi steep, hilly path that I took that leads from a residential area to a great, legal and close vantage point of the sign. I have to mention 'legal' because you can only get so close to the sign and then there are some paths that are treading on private property. There are warning signs for rattlesnakes, and that's reason enough to stay on the well-groomed paths, and still be on the lookout! But anyways, this one spot I located feels like you're really in the wilderness, even though you are so close to civilization - and it's quite a bit better and closer of a view than from Griffith Park Observatory.

Take a hike up to the Hollywood sign and see some nice views of the surrounding LA areas. Get some good pictures of the Hollywood sign at different angels and heights as you hike up the road. A pretty easy hike once you find where to park and the right trail, which sometimes can get confusing.

The famous Hollywood sign!
You can hike up to it, and it's a nice little hike. Not too arduous, and it's fun to go with friends. Unfortunately, you can't go right up to the sign because they gate it off, but it's still nice to be in its vicinity. Celebrities often come on this hike too!
