Holocene is one of Portland's better places to party, and has been a staple in the city's nightlife scene since it opened a decade ago. There are lots of shows and DJ nights here, and they are among the most eclectic spots in town in terms of the types of artists they bring in. It's usually a pretty laid-back scene, too, and as is the case with most of Portland's better venues, there's no dress code.

No one would have imagined in 2003 that an old Best Auto Parts warehouse would be converted into a 5000 square-foot music / art venue. Nevertheless, Portland has a way of surprising. In moonlighting as an event space, Holocene doesn’t limit itself to raucous musical events – for its walls have played host to multimedia parties, art openings, and a mélange of “highbrow and down-and-dirty” happenings. A lot of local artist, businesses, and creative types will utilize this space to showcase their art, products, and services, so be sure to take a gander at their well crafted website for detailed information. Located on Morrison & 10th, Holocene is relatively central to most everything, which makes it easily accessible by all forms of transportation. While there, take advantage of the full bar, culled food menu and happy hour menu, which includes both continental style cocktails and small plates.

Holocene is the closest thing I've seen to a dance club since I've lived in Portland for the past year. The venue is spread out and the dance floor is large enough to accommodate a substantial amount of people.Recommended for:Nightlife Lovers

Although Holocene is known as a club space in the evening, it can also be reserved during the day time for private events. I was recently here to attended a wedding/reception. The couple held a small ceremony in the stage/dance area, then it was quickly set up with tables for the reception portion. If you are looking to hold an event for about 130 or so you may want to consider holding your event here.

A really cool place and awesome venue. I've seen both rock and electronic shows here and both were well organized and not over crowded. The mood of the place is pretty hip while still being approachable people of any style, the bar tenders can be a bit assholish but expect it in a place like this, and in Portland.Recommended for:Trendsters
