From the frequency with which I find VERY empty boxes from Home Slice Pizza in the Casita after guests have left, I can say this place and its offerings are as poplular with travellers as with locals. Great place to grab a slice of substantial and tasty pizza while feeding a locally home-grown business. Chat and chew while you wander The Avenue. Grab dessert at any of many options a few feet away, such as Hey, Cupcake! across the street.

There's more and more high-quality pizza to be found in Austin nowadays, but it's hard to find a more popular spot than Home Slice. It's great for a sit-down meal for big families or groups of friends or just a quick slice to-go from their convenient walk-up location, located just next door to the main restaurant on South Congress Avenue. Family travelers shouldn't miss the annual Carnival O' Pizza (held every November), when the whole lot is festooned with colorful, thematic decorations for special events, like pizza tossing contests and moustache painting. (Note: Both locations are closed every Tuesday.)

I didn't eat the pizza, but I ordered a house salad and the garlic knots, which were delicious. It's weird that I liked the salad so much, because it was very simple, but I always end up loving salads served in pizza places. Also, my (now ex-)boyfriend loved his meatball and eggplant pizza.
Edit 1/6/2011: I went to Home Slice again in December and ordered a calzone. Fantastic! My rating has changed from four stars to a solid five.

I'll be keeping it simple here for this review because they keep it simple too, which is really how pizza should be. For roughly 4 bucks a slice you'll get yourself a well sized slice of hot, saucy, cheesy goodness. Always cooked to a perfect browned crispness, the crust is just above average size, just slightly more puffy and airy than a thin crust. I prefer this to a thin or deep dished slice of pie.
If you add up the price of what you're paying, the quickness of your order being processed (considering how busy this place is almost every night) and the solid, consistent quality of the enormous slices, all of this equals a place you've got to try at least once but promise me, it's a great place, you'll want to go back! A SoCo highlight. Solid pizza place. Four stars learning toward four and a half.
Also I'd like to note as a vegetarian I can feel cheated out of all the pizza fun, but I must say this place rates above average with it's cheese slice and they typically have one veggie only option for the day, which varies from day to day.
