What a cool young person's district that has a college town, artsy feel. Come here for the coffee houses, inexpensive trinkets/clothing shopping and to people watch, of course.

The city's premiere young, funky, artsy university neighborhood, Hongdae (the area around Hongik University, accessed via Hongik University Station line 2, exit 5 or Sangsu Station on line 6) is all told my favorite of the city's entertainment districts. With a good mix of locals and expats (not the foreigner ghetto that Itaewon is), it's a great place for dinner, a drink (or 15), clubbing, or a bit of late-night norebang (karaoke -- an essential Korean experience). For the essential savor of the city, though, just hang out in Hongik park on a Friday or Saturday night and watch the street performers with a bottle of makgeolli (rice-wine) from the vendor (2000 won!). You'll leave feeling good about everything in life.

Hongdae is where the cool kids hang out. This district is set aside the university and is the center of nightlife and shopping for artsy, creative types who are looking for independent Seoul. The indie coffee shops and boutique cloth shops that you want to visit are here. There is usually some kind of live music going on outside as well.

If you want to visit the hottest place in Seoul, try Hongdae. It's the area developed as a university town, and now it's one of the hottest places to go in Seoul. Nightlife, art, shopping, eateries, and culture are all combined. Also, a great cute-cafes are located in the small streets.

Hongdae is a great place for a night out but is also exciting to explore in the afternoon. Hongdae has a huge artistic vibe since Hongik university is an art school. Do some urban hiking in the afternoon and party at night.

Hongdae is an amazing place to party or bar hop. The Shamrock and Roll is an irish pub run by locals with some amazing Irish and English food (Bangers and Mash, Fish and Chips, Blood Pudding) and its a food spot to relax before or after partying. HONGDAE IS THE BEST PARTY SPOT FOR COLLEGED AGED PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE! (especially foreigners)
