As much as I love the location of this 5-star resort, I have found that 4-star resorts in the neighborhood provide a better value, in my opinion. This hotel has amazing food/restaurants, but you don't have to stay there to enjoy that. The pool is tiny. The staff is OK, but when they messed up a reservation for me, they ...

Recently the sheraton was renovated and looking modern as anything. The restaurants are pretty funky and the pool area is pretty different and awesome for the kids to play marco polo. It can be a little bit expensive, however it is an extremely nice resort.

At the top of the boutique hotel game in Waikiki, this Ian Schrager-designed hotel feels much more expensive than it is (it's now managed by the awesome island-based Aqua chain of hotels and resorts, which are eco-friendly). Don't miss having a drink in the lobby bar, hidden behind a revolving bookcase, James Bond-style. The pool deck adjoins Iron Chef Morimoto's ...

Stunning! The hotel is so perfect, I almost don't know what else to say. The rooms are modern and chic, so comfortable you feel at home, immediately. It is not in the heart of Waikiki, about five minutes by hotel shuttle or car. You don't ever feel like you are in a city but the availability to go out and ...

The Outrigger is a hawaiian classic and I've stayed here a couple times, most recently on my trip to Oahu last winter. The service here is friendly and expedient and everything else you should expect given the rates, which are not cheap. Besides the great access to the beach and the beach supplies available (we got towels and chairs everyday), ...

This hotel is a great option if you want to be in Waikiki and on the beach. The rooms are large and comfortable. If I have one criticism it would be that even though it is on the beach there is actually no beach in front of it. I know that sounds weird but its true. There is now a ...

I attended a meeting/presentation here and thought the property was quite nice. The meeting room opened up to the outdoors and made for a very airy feel. Clean and comfortable; made for an enjoyable experience. If the accommodations are similar, then it should be a great hotel.

The location of this hotel is great! The rooms are nice as well! Right across is the famous Waikiki Beach. If you stay at this hotel, try to get an ocean view room because it will be well worth it seeing Waikiki. The restaurant in the hotel is not that great. Okay, wow—this place is indeed five-star in style and service. It feels so sleek, like a black limo on a cool New York night, but with just the right Island touches to warm it up. The drama starts on arrival, with a trip six floors up just to reach the lobby level. Open-air and framed by deep seating, the lobby ...

Setting not far from the beach and more quiet, this might be the most elegant, sleekest hotel in Waikiki. This is condo living at its finest, across from Waikiki beach. The tower sets back a bit from the sidewalk, so it’s more quiet. There’s a beautiful trellised entryway, covered with flowering vines, to lead you in. Luxury Hotels in Honolulu
Of all of the destinations on the Hawaiian islands, Honolulu remains the most visited, and for good reason. Besides the wonderful beaches and view from atop Diamond Head, the area around the city provides much to do in regards to sightseeing. Interested in Hawaiian nightlife, from luaus to popular dance clubs? Add to that a bevy of excellent luxury hotels featuring all the perks you’d expect from an upscale lodging location, and you’ve got the ideal spot for all your Hawaiian vacations.

If you’re looking for upscale elegance with an old plantation feel, the Moana Surfrider is your answer. A Westin resort, the Surfrider exudes the best in everything, especially history, as it was the first hotel ever built on Waikiki Beach in 1901. Everything is extra special here, from the ultra comfy beds to the fantastic ocean views. But the pièce de résistance is the onsite spa, which fills almost an entire floor of this spectacular hotel. There, the staff still wear traditional Hawaiian dress and the water comes from a natural healing spring below the facility, which many claim has magical powers.

Equally as spectacular is the Halekulani, situated on five acres of beautiful beach. The first perk you’ll encounter here is private registration, done in your room rather than in the hotel lobby. Secondly, after you check in, you’ll be able to rest in your separate living area or on your furnished lanai, standard with each guest room. The hotel also provides complimentary tickets to your choice of a number of attractions in Honolulu, including Iolani Palace or the wonderful Bishop Museum.

Many of Honolulu’s luxury hotels are also known for their outstanding restaurants, including some very romantic choices that are ideal for couples. For example, the Halekulani is home to House Without a Key, which serves breakfast, lunch, and evening cocktails in an unsurpassed setting on the water, with traditional Hawaiian entertainment completing the mood. It’s the place to be when the stars come out! Other notable luxury hotel restaurants in Honolulu include the BLT Steakhouse in the fabulous Trump Hotel Waikiki, Azure in the lovely Royal Hawaiian Hotel, and the Modern Honolulu Hotel’s signature restaurant, the Morimoto, the brainchild of the star of Iron Chef.

Want something a little different? Then try the luxury Kahala Hotel and Resort, located in a more residential about a 10-minute drive from busy Waikiki. Families will love the Kahala because of its 26,000-square-foot lagoon, home to two very friendly bottlenose dolphins and a variety of other creatures. Dolphin education talks are offered daily and the excellent onsite children’s program also teaches about the local marine life. The Kahala’s spa is also fantastic, continuously rated one of the best in America.

Other great luxury hotels for families traveling with kids include the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which has a stellar day-long children’s program for parents who want some free time; the Halekulani, whose kid’s club offers excellent off-property excursions; and the Sheraton Waikiki, which also offers trips to places like the aquarium or zoo.

For luxury hotels with an excellent club and nightlife scene, check out the nightly live music at the Tropics Bar at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, or head to Lewers Lounge, a great jazz bar at the Halekulani. The Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian is also a happenin’ place after dark, close to the sand and offering great drinks in an unforgettable setting.
